Atlas Percussion Friends and Family,
With a mix of disappointment and resilience, we announce the difficult decision to go inactive for the 2024 indoor season. Despite our earnest efforts and the unwavering support of our members, staff, and the wider community, sudden, unforeseen facility challenges have forced us to make this deeply frustrating decision. For the last six months, our team of dedicated directors have been working closely with the school districts of Duval and St. Johns to acquire an adequate rehearsal facility to call home at an affordable season price for a non-profit in our activity. We had secured a wonderful partnership with Fletcher High School and had begun rehearsals there. Suddenly, and without warning, about two weeks ago, the district decided that due to construction, no outside groups were allowed on the site anymore. Dozens of emails and opportunities were explored and hours were spent on the phone to remedy this situation, but due to the timing of the district’s decision, we ran out of time.
Yesterday, at approximately 4:00pm, we received the final "no" from a facility we were relying on, leading us to the conclusion that going inactive is the most responsible course of action. We understand the disappointment and frustration this may cause, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding during these challenging times. This decision was made with two key factors in mind:
It is our duty as leaders and educators to make an informed decision in regards to the financial burden that comes with being a part of this activity as an individual. At this stage of the season Atlas is able to provide full refunds to members that have paid tuition fees already, and we are fully committed to doing that. Had leadership lingered on this decision, the organization would have begun spending money which could not be refunded, an option that would have been irresponsible to members and staff given that we had not secured a stable facility.
At the current stage of the 2024 season, despite our disappointment with the decision to go inactive, our current membership has some opportunities to find homes elsewhere for the 2024 season. Again, lingering on this decision would have more than guaranteed the inability of current members to experience the 2024 season with a successful ensemble. Currently, one of the Executive Directors, Ryan Sayers, has made contact with the other independent ensembles in Florida and Atlanta to help place Atlas members at other ensembles.
Ryan will be the main point of contact for all things membership success as current Atlas members decide what their options are- we ask for reasonable sensitivity and respect during this process. We have encouraged our members to connect with Ryan via Facebook or email ([email protected]) for personalized assistance.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Principal Ledford and Band Director Randy Salinas at Fletcher High School for their unwavering support during our challenging journey. In the face of unfortunate news from the school district, they tirelessly championed our cause, making every effort to ensure the success of our home and season. Their dedication and collaboration have been invaluable, and we want to emphasize that the Fletcher High School band program will always find a steadfast supporter in Atlas whenever it is in need. Thank you for being true partners on this journey.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the educational leadership at Atlas, the Board of Directors of Solaris Performing Arts, and our dedicated staff for their unwavering support and tireless efforts. Your commitment to excellence and passion for the arts have been the driving force behind Atlas Percussion. In times of challenge, your guidance and collaborative spirit have been instrumental, reinforcing the foundation of our organization. We want to express our deepest gratitude for your continuous support, and we look forward to facing future endeavors together with the same shared enthusiasm and dedication.
As we navigate the challenges of the present, Atlas Percussion remains steadfast in its unwavering commitment to bringing music education support to North Florida. Despite the temporary setback, we are resolute in our mission and will be working tirelessly over the next few months to ensure the enduring success of our organization. Your ongoing support fuels our determination, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to each member, supporter, and partner who has been a part of our journey. Together, we eagerly anticipate a future of positive music education experience and the collective achievements we will create. Thank you all for standing by us.
