Our Adult Ballerinas pinked out this week in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 💕🩰
We shared a heartfelt port de bras together....using movement to express ourselves and to think of and honor those who have been affected by breast cancer. 💓
We were also so fortunate to learn from one of our very own Adult Ballerinas, Carolynn M. DeBenedectis, MD, a breast imaging radiologist at Mass General Brigham and Professor of Radiology at UMass Chan Medical School. Carolynn dances in our All Levels Adult Ballet class and generously answered so many of our questions about breast cancer and breast health.
She also shared a wonderful article about ballet after breast cancer and some of the reasons ballet can be such a beautiful form of movement during recovery. The gentle, flowing movements of port de bras can support shoulder and upper-body mobility and range of motion, while ballet as a whole encourages posture, balance, strength, coordination, and body awareness. Just as importantly, returning to movement in a supportive class can offer social connection, confidence, joy, and a chance to reconnect with your body after treatment. 💕🩰
It was such a meaningful reminder that ballet can be so much more than dance. It can be movement, expression, connection, strength, and community.
We danced in pink for everyone who has been touched by breast cancer. ❤️🎀
