Rick gave two memorable performances with Johnny Earthquake and the Moondogs at our festival.

August 5, 1947 was the birthdate of the great RICK DERRINGER, one of my all-time musical heroes who I had the great privilege and honor of getting to know and performing with on a couple of occasions.

TUNE IN TOMORROW (Wednesday) at 8:00 AM as we feature his music dating back to his beginnings with the Mccoy’s, through his time with Edgar Winter’s White Trash, The Edgar Winter group, and his success as a solo artist.

I’ll also tell a couple of interesting anecdotes about a very fascinating and very talented guy who unfortunately passed away a little over a year ago.

The Natchitoches Jazz & R&B Festival wrapped up with some absolute showstoppers, and John Foster stepped on stage and brought it.

Old-school country.

The kind that doesn’t need backing tracks to carry a crowd. Just old songs people know by heart and voices loud enough to shake downtown Natchitoches.

If you haven’t heard of him yet—John Foster is a Louisiana native out of Addis, Louisiana and the Season 23 runner-up on American Idol.

His whole style leans hard into that classic, neo-traditional country sound that feels rooted in small-town life, storytelling, and the kind of music a Louisiana crowd instantly connects with.

And on Saturday night?
You could feel it.

People singing along. Kids dancing. Cold drinks in the air. Music echoing off the streets in one of the oldest towns in Louisiana.”
