We had a great album party yesterday with some close friends and family dropping by Gabriel House Blues to listen and pick up their copies of Luc’s wonderful new vinyl: “Short Way to Crazy”. It was such fun!

We were pleased to host another wonderful house concert last night. Our guests had a nice dinner and were then treated to some fine guitar work and country-tinged vocals as our featured artist, Will Wesley presented a selection of songs from his repertoire of original works.
Will is a long-time friend and hard working musician who brings an array of musical styles to the stage. His acoustic solo performance was top notch, and we enjoyed getting to visit with him and his wife, Star and learn more about their recent experiences as Will played both here in the U.S. as well as international venues.

I’ve been waiting to post about Wednesday night’s house concert at Gabriel House Blues because it’s difficult to find words that do justice to such a fine performance. Luc and I knew it would be an incredible show, and we had been eagerly waiting for May 1st to arrive since way back in January when Verlon Thompson first said he’d come.
One of our personal favorites, Veron is a guitarist, singer-songwriter and producer from Binger, Oklahoma who’s made a name for himself in Nashville since moving there in his youth. His songs have been recorded by some of the giants of country music as well as other genres. He is an international artist who worked extensively with Guy Clark for years. Now, Verlon continues to tour and capture audiences, large and small, with his personal approach, entertaining stories and fine guitar playing. In February, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame alongside such excellent musicians as Woody Guthrie, Vince Gill, Leon Russell, Jimmy Rogers and JJ Cale to name a few.
Verlon is such a beautiful and compassionate being, and he draws his audience into his performance, painting pictures of his life through his stories and songs. When we first met him, I told Luc that it’s so wonderful to meet someone and find that they are just like you thought (and hoped) they’d be. It was such an honor and a pleasure to have him grace our stage, and we were happy to share the night with those of you who joined us.

We had a couple of great house concerts in 2023. One compelling evening was spent enjoying Anse Rigby, whom Luc and I had had the pleasure of working with as actors in his video, Cold on the Mountain filmed by JB Lawrence. Anse brought heartwarming stories and beautiful acoustic music to our stage. He is a wonderful artist with a lot to offer any audience. Another was Vasti Jackson, The Mississippi Burner, who shares his unique style of blues around the world. He graced us with a private show and some music education along with it.

We also had a short, private show from a budding little artist who still has a long way to go, but has none-the-less shown she has a knack for playing and singing. She has already given herself a stage name: “May May Green”! Maybe we’ll see more of her in the future. 😁

Now for current news! 2024 holds a couple of upcoming music events that you will not want to miss. The afternoon of April 21st, we’ll host a good old fashioned free jam with everyone welcome. Just bring your drinks and a food dish or snack and join us for great fun and a variety of music in a really laid back setting. We’ll have friends visiting from Belgium then too, so that’ll make things even more interesting!

Also, on the evening of May 1st, we’ll present a very special house concert featuring Verlon Thomson, an incredibly entertaining singer-songwriter-musician coming to us from Nashville, Tennessee. In February, Verlon will be inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame alongside over 100 other great Okie musicians, many of whom he counts as his personal heroes. I guarantee it will be a beautiful evening and guests will leave fulfilled.
We’ll send invitations with details via Messenger to those who have expressed interest, but only 30-35 seats are available for house concerts. So, please keep that in mind.

We hope to see you soon, especially since we head back to Belgium for a while ourselves May 7th.

Summer Jam 2022 was a blast! We had some great friends, great food and drinks and most importantly, some great music!
This is not a public venue, but rather our home where we host music when we can for our own pleasure and that of invited guests in our own little juke joint. We love GHB!
