Forest Folk Sessions

Forest Folk Sessions Intimate performances in a breathtaking natural setting. "When the live music industry disappeared in 2020, venues were forced to shut down. Rainier, Mt.

Many still haven’t fully recovered. We back loaded our touring for fall of 2021 hoping that our favorite rooms would have a chance to get back on their feet, but only about a third of them had resumed live music. Our fall tour had several cancellations due to Covid surges in the cities that we frequent out west, but we were pretty determined to get back on the road so we had to get creative. We’re

avid hikers and we make time on every tour to get out into the woods. We’ve hiked Yellowstone, Mt. Hood, Olympic, Yosemite, Zion, Grand Teton, Rocky Mountain NP among others all while on the road. And so we thought, why not combine the two things we love most, hiking and playing music. We started a web series called Forest Folk Sessions where we hike into the woods and perform an intimate acoustic set for a small group of people in a beautiful natural setting: Devil’s Tower, Grand Tetons, Palisade Falls, etc.”

Dorrigo, NSW to be exact. Roadtripping through the mountains with a new friend. Waterfalls, craft pastries and some acoustic guitar in a field. What else could I ask for?

When I set up the camera for this shoot, I forgot to turn the auto focus on. The footage is pretty blurry, and I thought about deleting it. Decided to post it anyway and this series of videos went on to outperform anything else I’ve posted (mostly on the other app 😂). I’m sure we’ve all chosen not to post something because the lighting wasn’t great, or the sound isn’t perfect. I think in a lot of cases, these minor imperfections are things that only the creator fixates on, and other people don’t even notice. So this is a reminder to release the song, post the video, show someone your imperfect art.

For the Al Gore Rhythm: This is video of me finger picking acoustic guitar in the woods near North Cascades National Park in Washington.

This seems appropriate upon my return to the land of Aus. My time here earlier this year left an indelible impression on me, and I’ve been planing my return ever since. I’ve enjoyed all of the countries I’ve had the privilege of touring, but Australia was different. It just felt very comfortable and familiar, maybe because I lived in Victoria as a kid. I’ve met so many great people and experienced so much good will.

I’m just a tourist this time around (although I do have my guitar) but part of my visit is to plan my 2027 Australian tour. I have a feeling I’ll be spending more time here in the future (but not beyond my 3 month visa if immigration is reading this! 😂)

This is from my new song called “Paper Cut.”

Sold my house and a lot of my stuff (still have way too much stuff) and I’m heading back to Australia on Sunday. Lots of pretty seismic change happening right now but it feels right. Excited to see my Aussie pals!

For the Al Gore Rhythm: This is a video of me playing finger style acoustic guitar in front of Mount Hood. The chorus of a new song that I really like called paper cut.

I’m going to stay on the cabin theme since that’s where I’ll be all week for my birthday, after I’m all moved out of my house (last day!) I filmed this up there last year, partially to test out the low light capabilities of my new Sony cams. The quality is pretty impressive. I didn’t really make this with the intent of creating content, I just like making things, even if they don’t have an inherent promotional purpose. But I hope you enjoy this little taste of a summer night at a cabin in northern MN.

Over on the other app, you know which one I’m talking about (the sound a clock makes). The videos I post from this location are outperforming everything else I post and it’s not even close (although there has been a strong showing from Northern MN lately👊). Feeling the love from Washington State, might need to book a show..

After filming in front of a formidable tree in Booyong Recreation Reserve , Simon from informed and I that there was another, even more impressive tree he wanted to show us. Unfortunately Lily had to take off to make it to her gig in Lismore, but I set up the cameras and filmed under the shadow of this towering giant. The avian accompaniment on this one steals the spotlight. Bit of a show boat if you ask me.

I’m in the process of selling my house. Buy me a beer sometime and I’ll tell you why. We’ve all moved before. Take the stress of moving and add multiple manual labor projects around the house, painting, cleaning, light remodeling, flooring, electrical, plumbing, and about 4 years of deferred landscaping 😂. Its the worst.

I went up to my cabin the day it went on the market, completely exhausted and filmed this. I look a bit spent.

This is my favorite new riff right now and I started working on a melody at the cabin.

Also, we have new Forest Folk hats! I threw a link up in the bio.

I can envision a future where I’m in Australia quite frequently and am required to leave the country every 3 months to honor my visa. In this scenario, most people choose to fly to New Zealand. How great would life be if I could return here 2-3 times a year, and then eventually start construction on my doomsday bunker?

Collapsing Stars - “Sweet Grass” live from the Rob Roy Glacier track.

I just finished the lyrics for this one so I thought I’d share the main guitar riff, one of my new favorites. Sometimes during the writing process you get the sense that you’re writing a good one. This one gives me that feeling. I call it “Paper Cut.” And I think this video proves that it has interspecies appeal.
