B’Yachad, “Together,” is the exploration of unity without uniformity: our belief that being one community does not require us to think alike, practice alike, or agree on every issue. We can disagree and still recognize one another as family. B’Yachad is not sameness. It is the choice to remain connected through our differences.
The hands represent different expressions of Jewish life, moving through imagery of prayer, ritual, Torah, celebration, memory, and community. The emphasis on hands reflects the idea that togetherness requires action: the choice to participate, contribute, reach toward one another, and remain connected despite our differences. These elements move into and through one another rather than existing separately, reflecting a Jewish people connected across generations, geography, traditions, and individual experiences.
Members of my Synagogue, across generations, contributed individual marks to the original canvas, which became the underpainting and foundation of the finished work. Some remain visible while others live beneath what came after, reflecting how every member of our community leaves a mark, whether seen or felt.
Together, those individual contributions create something no one person could create alone: unity without uniformity, the essence of B’Yachad.
HUGE thank you to my synagogue for the love and trust, and thank you to my rabbi for our conversation that inspired the heart of this painting❤️❤️
I am beyond grateful to be representing my synagogue for the JCC’s Sukkot Gallery - if you’re in the area be sure to view the exhibition!
