The "fabric" is square pieces of white cloth decorated by individuals and brought together as a community art project which will be on display during Fall Fest at The Hermitage 2014. Supplies:
• 14" x 14" piece(s) of white lightweight cotton – handkerchief size
• Paints, markers, or dyes -- appropriate for fabric and must withstand rain
• Paint brushes, stamps, stencils or spray bottles – used to
apply paint or dye
• Embellishments -- fringe, rick-rack, buttons, etc. -- must withstand rain
• Glue -- permanent, waterproof (if gluing embellishments on fabric)
• Needle / thread (if sewing embellishments on fabric)
Instructions:
Artists will use one square piece of cloth to represent themselves in this community art project. Participants are welcome to submit more than one square of fabric, however, each entry must be an individual square and not two fabrics together to illustrate a story. Each fabric square must include the artist name in the front lower right hand corner. Display:
A pathway will be lined with materials in clothesline fashion using rebar, PVC poles and nylon rope, on which the fabric squares will be clothes pinned. The fabric squares will create a winding, flowing path of individuals coming together as one community. The pathway will include an activity in the center for attendees to create their own fabric square to be added to the display during the Fall Fest. Installation:
Fabric squares will be added to the display by the community artists, committee members or volunteers during the display setup on Friday or as the artists arrive or complete their fabric squares during the event on Saturday and Sunday. A collection box will be located at The Hermitage one week prior to the event to allow completed fabric squares to be included by those community artists who will not be able to personally attend the event but would still like to contribute to the community art project. Pick Up:
Fabric squares will be available for pick up directly from the Fall Fest display between 1:00pm – 5:00pm on Sunday or as the community artists exit the event. Any fabric squares remaining at the end of the Fall Fest will be donated to Turnip Green Creative Reuse. Groups will be encouraged to collect their fabric squares to be repurposed into group community art projects; i.e. which could be used for fund raiser projects such as auction items.
