Join us this weekend for hands-on discovery of Calligraphy Meets Tangle-Inspired Design with Rose Wathen! Tangle-inpsired marks become borders, flourishes, and texture. Our exercises and play will explore design tools for examining rhythm, contrast, texture, framing, and movement around lettering. It keeps our calligraphy central and creates a unified layout.

Saturday, September 12, 2026
General Meeting 10:30 a.m., program to follow

Location: Frist Art Museum
919 Broadway
Downtown Nashville, TN 37203

We will focus on:
-Stroke quality
-Rhythm
-Spacing
-Contrast
-Letteforms
-Composition

Rose will be bringing your basic supplies, like pencils, erasers, chalk pencils, tortillon or blender, paper, rulers, sharpeners, micron pens, and brush markers. Some broad edge pens will be available.

WHAT TO BRING:
- A word or phrase that you want to showcase in this technique
- For lettering, you can bring your favorite pen and ink or you can make drawn letterforms with the tools provided.

Rose Wathen is a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) who incorporates lettering and tangling into finished projects.

Are you a *beginner* who would like to try your hand at Brush Lettering?

Brush Lettering is possibly the least intimidating way to dive into the world of calligraphy, so jump in! Every one of our guild members remembers what it was like to start, so we'd like to support your entire journey. Our effervescent member Molly is teaching a beginning class this September, and it's a fabulous opportunity for new learners. To register, please click the link below.

(Disclosure: This class is not a Guild-sponsored event; we just like sharing great opportunities with our community!)
