“Free Will Cake” available on my Etsy

While in part inspired by my birthday this month, this cake mostly came from a moment years ago when I realized you can actually buy a cake any time, for any reason. I got in my car, drove to Shaw’s, chose a little cake with strawberries, and took it home. With my birthday approaching, I went back, picked out a new “Free Will Cake,” brought it home, painted it as a still life, and ate the reference over the next week. That grocery store frosting holds up well.

“Free Will Cake” is about the joy of doing something simply because you can!

🍊 SOLD! 🍊

This was my first gouache painting, back in January of last year. It felt like magic to paint in an opaque medium after doing over a year of only watercolor. It’s one of my favorites and I’m so happy it’s being received so enthusiastically! Hoping it brings a little brightness as we all hold out for spring.
