इस का प्रारंभ 29 अप्रैल 1982 को हुआ। यूनेस्को के अंतरराष्ट्रीय थिएटर इंस्टिट्यूट की अंतरराष्ट्रीय डांस कमेटी ने 29 अप्रैल को नृत्य दिवस के रूप में स्थापित किया। एक महान रिफॉर्मर जीन जार्ज नावेरे के जन्म की स्मृति में यह दिवस मनाते हैं।
