On September 18, the North Central College Jazz Faculty is excited to welcome back alumna Alyssa Allgood as the first guest artist of this season’s Jazz Faculty Concert Series! One of Chicago’s most celebrated jazz vocalists, songwriters, and educators, Allgood has established herself as a leading voice in contemporary jazz. A two-time DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star, she has performed at renowned venues and festivals including Birdland, Dizzy’s Club, the Jazz Showcase, the Green Mill, the Chicago Jazz Festival, and Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai. As a recording artist, she has released four full-length albums and continues to earn critical acclaim for her original compositions, expressive storytelling, and instrumental approach to improvisation. This special concert celebrates the connection between North Central College and its alumni, highlighting the lasting impact of our graduates on the jazz community. Joining Allgood will be members of the North Central College Jazz Faculty for an evening featuring original compositions, fresh arrangements of jazz standards, and inspired improvisation. Join us on September 11 for the World Doctors Orchestra performance in the Wentz Concert Hall! The World Doctors Orchestra is an independent non-profit organization driven by the spirit of the orchestra members from around the world. Although all of the physicians share a passion for music, the driving force behind the Orchestra is the conviction that neither national borders nor political or economic interests should limit access to adequate healthcare. With its series of concerts, World Doctors Orchestra strives to raise global awareness that healthcare is a basic human right and a precondition for human development. The concert proceeds will benefit two Chicago non-profit organizations; Chi-Care and UIHealth’s COIP. Both organizations help people in need with food and medical care. Join us next weekend for the return of The Glenn Miller Orchestra to the Wentz Concert Hall! Take a step back in time with the most popular and sought after big band of all time! The world-famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform their greatest hits, including “In The Mood,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “American Patrol,” “A String Of Pearls,” “Little Brown Jug,” “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” “Tuxedo Junction,” and of course their theme song “Moonlight Serenade” as they continue their national tour. The 15 member orchestra, their lead singers, and vocal group will perform their catalog of big band classics just the way they would have over 80 years ago when Glenn Miller stood in front of his band.
