-It’s a rainy lazy day here in my neck of the woods. I’m staying busy with sorting through my gardening books dreaming of creating a beautiful secret garden in my back yard. I am also drawing inspiration from this beautiful vineyard garden at in Napa Valley. This is where we were engaged a couple years ago. It holds. A special place in our hearts and we always visit a few times each trip back. Can’t wait to go back in a couple months!!

Winery Wednesday!

How do you choose your first tasting of the day on a wine country trip? We decided to go to Caymus for our morning tasting on this particular day. The outdoor tasting takes place in their dreamy gardens where they have several areas of seating nestled amongst the flowers and trees. You have plenty of time to enjoy the wines, and wander through the flowers.
-
The Wagner family has been making wines from a variety of different regions for 150 years! It was fun to hear the about of where the grapes are grown, how they are chosen, and some fun family stories.
-
We did purchase a couple of the “new to us” wines we tasted to bring home to share with friends. And of course the Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection which is grown in Napa Valley for the cellar.

I have been to Napa and Sonoma many times and never even considered a balloon ride. I am slightly afraid of heights , and I thought I was there to taste the wine! 🍷
-A few trips ago, I decided to start adding one new adventure during my trip. Something that would get me out to experience the culture, the ambiance, or the great many beautiful places surrounding Napa and Sonoma.
- Last fall I decided to go for a sunrise balloon ride over the Napa valley. My travel buddy for that trip( my sister in law) had gone home a day before me and I was up for an adventure on my last day.
-As you can see, we were blessed with a beautiful sunrise and some fog and mist rising off the valley floor. This is a breathtaking way to see the vineyards!! I highly recommend it! The balloon just floats along with the breeze and all I had to do was enjoy the view. Amazing!
-Because you leave at sunrise , there is still plenty of day left for wine tasting and a delicious meal along the way.

One of the most unique, serene, and beautiful tasting rooms I have experienced. Phifer Pavitt sits on the side of the Silverado Trail in Calistoga California. Actually a bit hard to find. But totally worth the effort!! Once we walked up the stairs to this amazing room, we knew it would be hard to leave. 😉 And Luke, (who knows all the things wine), told many stories and interesting wine fact didn’t make it any easier to leave! Well, and the wine!!! What fun!!

The story of this place is a love story really. Boy meets girl, they fall in love, and buy a winery! Lol. Seriously...they named their amazing Cabernet “Date Night”. Realizing that all of their big decisions were made on a date night. It’s a great story and they make amazing wine!

My husband and I like to add something new to our cellar , well, all the time. 😉
-We just received the 2014 - Six by Silver Oak Alexander Valley. We did a fun side by side tasting last night with our tried and true Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - 2015. Both are amazing and we actually each liked a different one over the other😁. We will save the rest of the Six in the cellar in the Cab section for a special occasion....or maybe a Tuesday. 😉

Winery Wednesday!!

On a trip to Napa a few years ago, this winery was recommended to us as a place to get amazing wine and an incredible cave tour. We of course made an appointment right away. It was a last minute trip and we were lucky to snag a tasting here.
-
This is the beautiful Pride Mountain Vineyards. We took a very tiny winding road to the summit of Spring Mountain to get to this fun tasting. ( they actually sell shirts that day “I survived the drive to Pride”). The view from the vineyards is absolutely gorgeous! Jay greeted us with a glass of wine while we talked a little about the history and the vineyards.

Crazy fun fact...the Napa/Sonoma county line runs right through the vineyards and bottling facilities. This makes for interesting transfer of grapes, wines, and bottles as they must keep it straight for taxes etc. Also the labeling claims the percentage from each county! I love it! 😉

We tasted the Voignier 2018. I am not usually big on white wine and generally can’t wait to get to the reds...and we actually purchased some of this one!! Fruity, citrus, and just a hint of gardenia.

Fun fact #2...Pride Mountain is the only American wine to be served in three different White Houses.

Of the wine we tasted here, I will say their Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is my favorite!!! We order that on the regular. We also did join their wine club and have received some really amazing wine.

They have one of the most beautiful and rustic cave systems I’ve seen. During your tasting experience you will stop along the way to taste right from the barrels and may get to do a bit of mixology of your own. So fun!

Anyone else missing travel these days? I was just remembering our trip to St John in January....the sand, the surf, this wine!! And the sunsets!! 😍. Soon we will all be traveling again! Until then....I think I might just open one of these crisp clean Hourglass Sauvignon Blancs for this afternoons happy hour! 🥂. Cheers!
