* First time flying 😅
*First time in Yellowstone

On the way to the airport and officially headed to Mammoth, Yellowstone to see my daughter Patience! ❤️

She has already given me very important instructions:

“DO NOT PET THE FLUFFY COWS 🦬 THAT ROAM FREELY IN MY FRONT YARD!”

Patience actually lives inside Yellowstone National Park and apparently I need to remember that I am visiting wildlife and not a giant outdoor petting zoo. 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Although… if one of those fluffy cows happens to fit in my suitcase, I may just bring one home to add to my turkey guard! 😂🦃🦬😂my imagined photo 👇

But don’t worry, Cabela’s Cake House is NOT going on vacation! 🍰🏠

The Cake House will remain OPEN MONDAY–SUNDAY, 8 AM–9 PM as usual!

My Home Alone kiddos have assured me that it will still be stocked every day while I’m gone. ❤️

And before anyone starts worrying…

Yes, I did ask if they were going to keep up with everything.

And NO… you will not find empty spots being strategically filled with Rice Krispie treats just so it looks stocked. 😅😂

So while I’m off chasing mountain views, visiting my girl, and trying VERY HARD not to pet the fluffy cows—or accidentally bring one home…

The Cake House is still here waiting for you! 🧁🍪🍰

🚨 CAKE HOUSE TURKEY WARNING 🚨🦃

To everyone visiting the Cake House who has discovered the turkeys and decided to call them over…

CALL AT YOUR OWN RISK. ⚠️😂

They have apparently decided that every human gobble means “SNACK DELIVERY HAS ARRIVED!” and they are NOT shy about coming to investigate. 🤣

So if you hear gobbling, and gobble back, then see them marching toward you…I warned you. 😂🦃

BTW-All this talk about turkeys reminds me to tell you there’s PUMPKIN CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES in the cake house 😋🤤

Every once in a while, someone wonders why a cookie, cupcake, cake pop, loaf of bread, or package of treats from a small local bakery stand costs more than something similar sitting on a grocery-store shelf.

It’s actually pretty simple:
We aren’t grocery stores.

When you compare a local bakery’s price to Walmart, Kroger, Costco or another large retailer, you’re comparing two completely different business models. A large chain can purchase ingredients, packaging and supplies in enormous quantities.

A small bakery might make a few dozen cookies instead of a few thousand. And TBH probably buying their ingredients from those large chains☝️☝️☝️☝️

And those sweet treats aren’t just magically appearing on the shelf. 😉🧝🏼‍♂️🧚

Someone has to:
🍪 Purchase the ingredients
🍪 Measure and prepare everything
🍪 Mix and bake it
🍪 Cool it
🍪 Decorate or package it
🍪 Label it
🍪 Clean the equipment and workspace
🍪 Purchase packaging and supplies
🍪 Pay for utilities and equipment
🍪 Stock the shelves
🍪 Handle the business side of actually running the bakery

And yes… the baker needs to make a little money too.

That’s not greed. That’s how a small business stays open.

So the next time you see a $5 treat from a local baker and think, “That’s more than the grocery store,” remember that you’re not just buying flour, sugar and chocolate chips.

You’re helping pay for someone’s time, equipment, ingredients, packaging, overhead and the little business they’re working hard to build.

And when you spend $5 with a local baker instead of a giant corporation, that $5 means a whole lot more to the person who made your cookie.

To all of our local bakers: keep charging what you need to charge to keep your business going.

And to everyone who supports them: thank you for understanding!

If somebody still says, “Well, Walmart is cheaper,” the answer is beautifully simple:

“Absolutely! Walmart is really good at being Walmart. We are really good at being tiny local bakeries.” 😂

🐝 Cake House Update 🌳… 🐝

I’m standing on the Cake House porch looking out this morning, and we’ve got a little tree situation going on! 😂

The large fallen tree is across the path down toward the creek, and we discovered 🤔possibly a European hornet nest inside the tree, near the large knot you can see in the photo. 🐝 They appear to be entering and exiting the tree near the large knot, where we believe the nest is located.

* 🌳 Tree fell 5 days ago
* 🐝 Hornets are still actively swarming around that same tree
* 🪵 I believe the nest is inside the tree near that large knot
* 🏠 It is relatively 100 feet from the Cake House

My husband and son did try 🤷🏼‍♀️☄️⛽️😱😬but I’d like to have it safely removed by someone experienced with hornet nests, so if you know someone who does this, please send me their information or tag them below!

For anyone visiting the Cake House, the nest is a safe distance away from the Cake House porch and customer area. ❤️

The tree is at least 50++years old, and it has a very large, unusual knot that you can see in the photo.

🐝 So First, I’m looking for someone experienced in safe hornet nest removal. If you know someone who safely handles hornet colonies, especially ones inside tree cavities, please tag them or send me their information!

🌳 And then there’s the tree itself…

Before we simply cut it up for winter firewood, I’m wondering if there is someone locally who works with live-edge wood, character wood, specialty slabs, or sawmilling who might be interested in taking a look at it.

That large knot has been growing for decades, and I hate to see a potentially beautiful piece of live-edge/figured wood go to waste if it could become a table, bench, mantel, shelves, or another piece of woodworking.

If you know a local sawyer, live-edge woodworker, woodturner, or someone who specializes in salvaged/character wood, I’d love to hear from you!
