Been working on creating a more transparent effect with clear colored resin. I printed off a couple spare flutes and attempted brushing just the outside of the smaller one with a bit more resin and meticulously brushing both the outside and inside of the larger one. The smaller one ended up with a cool kind of jeweled effect. Unfortunately on the larger one it took a couple coats which still didn't cover it 100% and ended up a little uneven and even tacky in spots. What's more, I didn't even realize till after curing it again that the resin melted the paint right off my brush and left these unsightly rings around the bottom holes. Lesson learned, though. Next time I'll just glaze it whole and it should give a nice consistent clear effect.

I've successfully transitioned over to not only regular resin as opposed to water-washable, but started testing out this lovely clear color. With some anti-aliasing and maybe some sanding, I bet I could get this outright transparent. I'll be running a couple more exposure tests, but it both looks and sounds pretty good. I may try slightly lowering the density of some of the supports in the future to try and even out those little dots on top, but this makes me very happy for many reasons. Plus, I love the facf that its transparency basically ensures a more consistent UV curing process.

Came back to 4th-gear Luffy again with a lot of success. I really need to be more vigilant about having real clean wash water and getting more in-depth with my paintbrush though. With all the success in this piece, that bit of residue really does screw with the finished look I've been trying to nail down. The texture and detail is luckily spot-on, and overlooking its lack of luster in lots of places and a couple supports that could be calculated or placed better, I'm still very happy with it.

Master Chief from Halo. I have a feeling the hole in his chest probably came about from an island I found in the design after. Still figuring out why his left pointer finger and thumb went wonky, but I've got a good notion that it was due to a problem with the supports. He was printed at roughly double the size as the other two on the plate, and I think the lesson I'm cementing in place for myself here is that support designs are definitely not universal across the board. Also reminding myself to inspect my 3d models more thoroughly in the future, even if it tacks on some time. Apart from that, I'm actually pretty proud of how it turned out.

I decided to do a couple Vivienne Medrano characters since I'm a fan of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. Here's Alastor (The Radio Demon) from Hazbin Hotel. A couple minor support marks, but nothing that can't get buffed out. The exposure setting somehow went slightly less than I had it at by the time I hit print, but I suppose that also gives me a chance to observe the effects as well. No loss on the details, for sure.

It's attribution time. I've been having a fantastic time sharpening my skills in 3D printing and 3D modelling and making my way towards commissions, but something I'm correcting here and will also be part of future posts will be due credit to the amazing artists who have come up with these fantastic designs. Proprietary designs and commercial licenses are definitely in the works, but in the meantime I'd be remiss if I didn't properly cite the works of these hardworking and incredibly noteworthy people-

A Stitch statuette and 5-hole kid's pendant ocarina I made for my niece. The exposure settings are really coming together and I discovered how to minimize support marks. Probably should've used different support densities considering Stitch's slightly jagged teeth, but still some of my best work so far. She went absolutely bonkers over them. Our oldest son also got a pendant, and him and I have been playing together. This was also an experiment to see how much I could fit on my build plate at once, and to my satisfaction, all three just barely made it together without incident. It was close enough that I almost thought they'd overlapped before rinsing them off.

A simple yet (on paper, at least) sturdy toy car I made for our oldest boy upon request. The wheels actually spin- something I'd wondered if/how they'd figured out with an interesting solution. It was the most adorable thing when he got it- he hugged it to himself like I'd given him his very own puppy. It really melted both our hearts. Of course he broke it a bit later that day, but after a little extra curing by me as an added precaution, he gave it a tape band-aid, finished coloring it purple and it's still off to the races, lol.

Since I'd been tackling the ocarina pretty sturdily, I figured a recorder would be a nice change of pace. Unfortunately I'd once more left the build plate unscrewed which led to another recalibration, but lesson learned- the build plate gets triple-checked now lol. In spite of being a kinda breathy and off-tune and rattling a bit, it does fit together without incident and does play. The sounding turned out a bit warped and that was probably an issue with the exposure again, something I never noticed with the ocarinas but provides another interesting challenge/lesson. Honestly I'm surprised anything turned out let alone something that looks so nice. I'll label it another happy little mistake.

This was one of the first ideas I had for what I would want to create with a 3d printer when I got one. I had no idea how deceptively difficult it would be to pull off. I went through 8 variations on my computer and 5 or 6 tries on the printer before it came out- 3 or 4 of them didn't print at all , then only a little bit. The round shape has so little to cling to on the build plate. It kept getting ripped right off of the supports. Recalibration and adding more supports helped a tiny bit, but what actually brought it out completely was turning the exposure time down, ironically enough I thought. I spent so much time trying to figure this out, and no doubt there will even be further adjustments and updates to this design, but by now I'm proud to say I've successfully managed to slice and save a model that comes out looking more polished than ever, and more importantly playing correctly and smoothly. I've become addicted to playing on it, too.
