Thanks everyone for signing up! The free kids gyotaku workshop at Whalebone park in Nags head has been filled 😳

All the supplies have been taken care of, just make sure you wear clothes that you can get messy and I will see everyone there at 10:00am!

Lots happening the next 2 weeks, I will be at the Outer Banks Seafood Festival this weekend October 17 and I’ll be at Jeanette’s pier with the kids at Manteo middle school on October 22 to introduce them to lure making and then teaching a gyotaku class soon after with any fish they catch at Jennette's Pier

We will be with soundsidemarket for the holiday markets as well!

Join local artist Merv Rubiano of Strategic Angler at Whalebone Park for a hands-on introduction to the traditional art of fish printing. Merv will guide kids ages 8 to 12 through the process of creating their own original fish print using traditional techniques.

Gyotaku (魚拓, from gyo “fish” + taku”, impression) is a traditional form of Nature printing used by Japanese Fishermen to record their catches. Since then, it has also become an art form of its own.

Typically, sumi ink is applied to the fish and rice or mulberry paper is laid on top. The paper is then rubbed onto the ink, creating an impression to accurately capture the fishes’ size and unique characteristics. These fish impressions are often touched up to enhance certain characteristics of the fish. The eyes are usually painted last, marking the completion of a piece.

This is a unique opportunity for young artists to learn directly from a local coastal artist, explore a traditional art form, and create an original piece of artwork inspired by the fish and waters of the Outer Banks. Kids will roll up their sleeves, get creative, and take home a one-of-a-kind print they made themselves.

Come ready to create—and get a little messy! Please wear clothes that can get messy.

Never been tech savvy, I tried.

But seriously, I’m getting better every day. MRI results finally came in. All is clear and apparently they had a brain in there they could scan (mind blown). The last three weeks were rough!

Really appreciate everyone’s concern while I had to sit my fat ass down while the world spun around me. So glad it’s so much better now.

Hey gang! Wanted to let everyone know that Tomo's Tackle finally received a portion of their long awaited custom batch from earlier this year with another batch hopefully in the next few weeks.

I’m almost at 95% having undergone a barrage of tests (with more tests this week) after having a debilitating bout of vertigo mid September. Trying to catch up on some projects slowly as my eyes and ears are still getting used to my daily schedule which is an ordeal in itself.

Needless to say, Tomo’s Tackle now has the two new sizes of the Frantic series (155 and 130mm) in addition to the current 180mm size. It’ll take him some time to upload pics to his webstore but I’m sure he can let you know what he has now over the phone.

Thanks for the patience gang, and so sorry for the massive delay!
