Nacogdoches Main Street has celebrated 23 years of being a designation of the Main Street Program. Main Street is a national program born out of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Since 1980, the National Main Street Center has been working with communities across the nation to revitalize historic commercial areas. Based in historic preservation, the Main Street approach was developed to save historic commercial architecture, but has become a powerful economic development tool as well. The Main Street program is designed to improve all aspects of the downtown, producing both tangible and intangible benefits. Improving economic management, strengthening public participation, and marketing downtown as a fun place to visit is as critical to Main Street's future as recruiting new businesses, and rehabilitating buildings. Building on downtown's inherent assets -- rich architecture, personal service, and traditional values and most of all, a sense of place -- the Main Street approach supports entrepreneurship, downtown cooperation and civic concern. It has earned national recognition as a practical strategy appropriately scaled to local resources and conditions. And because it is a locally driven program, all initiatives stem from local issues and concerns.

The SFA Homecoming Parade is happening tomorrow morning, and we're excited to see downtown filled with purple! 💜

🚧 A quick heads-up about road closures!
Downtown streets along the parade route are expected to begin closing around 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

If you're planning to come downtown, take a look at the parade route map below and allow yourself a little extra time to get around and find parking!

🛍️ And don't forget — our downtown businesses will still be open! While you're here for the parade, grab some breakfast, do a little shopping, or stop in for lunch afterward!

TWO Downtown Nacogdoches Finalists for Statewide Awards!

We are SO excited to announce that Susu's Popcorn & Candy Café and the Hazle-White Building have been named finalists in the 2026 Texas Downtown President's Awards!

These statewide awards recognize outstanding projects, places, and people making a difference in downtown communities across Texas. We're thrilled to see TWO Downtown Nacogdoches finalists among the best in Texas!

Susu's Popcorn & Candy Café
Finalist: Best Downtown Business | Under 50,000

Susu's has become a beloved downtown destination known for its specialty popcorn, sweet treats, and welcoming atmosphere! This family-owned business continues to grow, investing in its downtown property and expanding into an adjoining space to provide ice cream and fresh fudge. Susu's was also recently named the 2026 Small Business of the Year by the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce!

Hazle-White Building
Finalist: Best Rehabilitation/Restoration/Renovation | Under 50,000

Located at 401 E. Main Street, the Hazle-White Building is a wonderful example of historic preservation and reinvestment in our downtown! Originally constructed in 1901, the building underwent a major rehabilitation led by local businessman Dennis White and his family. The project preserved historic architectural features while transforming a long-underutilized property into a functional space for modern use.

We're incredibly proud of both finalists!

Susu's and the Hazle-White Building represent two important parts of downtown revitalization — supporting thriving small businesses and preserving the historic buildings that make our downtown special.

With 155 entries submitted from communities across Texas, it's an exciting accomplishment to have two finalists representing Nacogdoches!

Winners will be announced Wednesday, November 4, at the Texas Downtown President's Awards Gala in Amarillo!
