It's not every day we get to hear a bass without varnish, but Alex Svensen took this hybrid Karr for a spin. It's one of our "opportunity basses" that we sprinkle in between custom builds. That means a much shorter waiting time, and still some room for customization. This one's near completion, but varnish, setup, strings, and extensions are some of the things you still get to decide on. Some studio photos of the Santagiuliana we showed yesterday. The model began with an old Italian instrument owned by Blake Hinson and has evolved into one of our most distinctive designs. This example is built with a poplar flat back and set up for orchestral playing.

This French bass came to the shop recently. A sweet 3/4 sized gamba shaped bass with beech ribs, nicely sloped shoulders, 41 3/4 inch steing length and lots of character.

This is a fantastic example of what we mean when we talk about dream basses. Brian Vose drew this, and we said "let's do it!".
The upper half is almost like a 1/2 size, while the lower has everything that a big bass does. The string length is a mere 38.5". The bass is made to be able to do everything that's thrown at it. Big sound (even with the C extension fully open) small size and exceptional playability.
Alex Svensen re-set his fingers for the shorter string length and took it for a spin.
