Important PSA regarding dolphins around the Connecticut and Rhode Island coasts.

This time of year, our area’s productive waters provide an abundant food source, which means we may see more dolphins throughout our response and coverage area.

If you encounter a dolphin, whether from a boat or on shore, please give it plenty of space.

🚫 Do not approach, touch, or feed dolphins.
🚫 Never attempt to push a stranded dolphin back into the water.

Stranded dolphins are already under significant stress, and attempting to return them to the water can put them at further risk. Dolphins can also carry diseases that may be transmitted to people or pets.

If a dolphin appears injured, stranded, or in distress, please contact our 24-hour hotline. Our team can assess the situation and determine if intervention is needed.

A second chance at sea.

This morning, Mystic Aquarium's Animal Rescue Program released Peanut the harbor seal during a private release.

On July 5, our stranding network partner, Seacoast Science Center, reached out to request rehabilitation space for a young harbor seal in need of help. After being rescued and transported to Mystic Aquarium the following day, she received a full physical exam and was found to be underweight, with superficial injuries and a respiratory infection.

Our rehabilitation team created an individualized treatment plan to help her recover. She began with formula and tube feedings before transitioning to fish and eventually eating on her own! Her care also included antibiotics and nebulization therapy to help clear her respiratory infection.

After weeks of supportive care, she has gained more than 20 pounds and made an incredible recovery.

We’re excited to share that she received a clean bill of health and has been returned to the ocean!

Mystic Aquarium and the American School for the Deaf are proud to partner for a special day celebrating the Deaf, hard-of-hearing and DeafBlind communities on Sunday, September 13th. Guests of all ages are invited to explore the Aquarium through accessible experiences, ASL interpretation and interactive opportunities designed to make discovery even more meaningful.

Featured accessible experiences include:
Walking ASL Classes
ASL Story Time
The first-ever California Sea Lion Show with live ASL and video interpretation
A live interactive feed of Belugas Count with researchers in Alaska
ASD Student Ambassadors alongside Mystic Aquarium docents
Community resources from organizations serving the Deaf, DeafBlind and hard-of-hearing communities
The unveiling of exhibits with ASL accessibility through QR codes

ASL interpreters will be provided by the American School for the Deaf. Event activities included with Aquarium general admission.

How do you transport a beluga whale?

It takes months of planning, specialized equipment, a dedicated team, and a whole lot of teamwork. From specially designed transport units and stretchers to cargo planes, high loaders, veterinary care, and police escorts, every detail is carefully planned to keep the animal safe and comfortable throughout the journey.

And once they arrive? The goal is simple: get them safely into their new habitat and give them time to meet their new pod. For Nunavik, our newest arrival, that happened within a day, and watching the group form a tight pod and swim synchronously together was the ultimate reward.

It truly takes a village to bring a beluga home, and this was a team victory.

Celebrate the end of summer and kick off a new school year with a day full of fun at Mystic Aquarium! Enjoy kid-favorite activities like kid karaoke, hula hoop contests, giant lawn games, crafts, an obstacle course, and more. As you play, stop by interactive stations hosted by Aquarium staff to discover the exciting work they do every day—from caring for marine animals and rescuing wildlife to educating guests, supporting conservation, and more. It's a day of hands-on fun, creativity, and discovery for the whole family.

Bash for Books: $5 from every general admission ticket purchased for this event will be donated by Mystic Aquarium to a school supply drive by Safe Futures, a local nonprofit whose mission is stopping abuse, restoring hope, and saving lives of those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, trafficking, elder abuse, and child abuse in Southeastern Connecticut.

All activities included with Aquarium general admission.

Mystic Aquarium's Run Walk for the Penguins is Back on October 18th!

Whether you take on the 5K Run or enjoy the 2-Mile Walk, every step helps support Mystic Aquarium's conservation efforts to protect critically endangered African penguins.
Registration opens in mid-August and includes admission to Mystic Aquarium on race day!

This year's event will feature:
* Visits from some of our African penguins before the race
* Music from 107.7 to keep the energy high
* Delicious breakfast burritos from a local food truck
* Complimentary stretch sessions from Stretch Zone Mystic
* Refreshing non-alcoholic beer from Athletic Brewing Company
* A Kids Fun Run for our youngest penguin supporters
* Original penguin artwork awarded to top finishers and fundraisers
* Family-friendly activities and plenty of penguin fun throughout the morning
