Topic Thursdays: Did you know that a hippo can open their mouth wide enough to fit a 4 foot child inside!
There are 2 types of Hippos. The Common Hippo and the Pygmy Hippo.
Hippo’s live in East Africa South of the Sahara.
They are herbivorous-meaning they don’t eat meat.
A hippos main diet consists of grass.
Hippos eat 150 pounds of grass everyday!
Hippos are a semi-aquatic animal meaning they spend a lot of the time in the water.
Hippo’s do not have sweat glands so they spend a lot of time in the water to stay cool.
A hippo can hold their breath for 5-6 minutes.
A mother gives birth to her baby underwater.

Learn Something New Mondays: male giraffe can weigh as much as a pick up truck! That’s about 1400 kilograms.
Although a giraffe’s neck is 1.5 – 1.8 metres, it contains the same number of vertebrae at a human neck.
A giraffe's habitat is usually found in African savannas, grasslands or open woodlands.
The hair that makes up a giraffes tail is about 10 times thicker than the average strand of human hair.
The distinctive spots that cover a giraffe’s fur act as a good camouflage to protect the giraffe from predators. When the giraffe stands in front of trees and bushes the light and dark colouring of its fur blends in with the shadows and sunlight.

Monday Monkey Facts: A monkey is any primate that is not a human, prosimian, or ape.
Monkeys are most easily distinguished from apes by their tails. Apes have no tails.
Apes and spider monkeys swing arm-to-arm in trees, but most monkeys don’t. Instead, they run across branches.
Monkeys use vocalizations, facial expressions, and body movements to communicate.
Grinning or pulling the lip is a sign of aggression in monkeys, along with yawning, head bobbing, and jerking the head and shoulders forward
