We found the most perfect mat for this delicate stitching... If you give it a generous zoom in, you can see all of these clusters of purple beads and metallic blue thread. When we looked at this silk mat, the whole piece sang. It's a crinkled silk with a red/blue color shift as the light rakes across it. The problem was it was discontinued! 😭 The next best option was ok, but the magic was gone.
It helps to have a network of friends, because fellow framer extraordinaire, Ylva Callewaert of Artemis Custom Framing in Massachusetts had just the scrap on hand that we needed! Thank you, Ylva!!!

Much Gold. Very Foil.
Apparently Les Claypool bought himself a gold mine in the mountains... and then named his next tour after his newest diversification of assets. We leaned into it a little bit for the frame design. Did we strike gold too?

It's certainly not every day that I get to frame for a celebrity.
And even less so to say that celebrity is a cat!
But I had fun with my little part in finishing this birthday present for the sassiest little lynx point siamese on facebook, Topanga Banana Frank, the face of Tiny Paws and Second Chances. She's got a huge personality and isn't afraid to air her grievances on Facebook when she has to share the attention and energy of her mom as she runs a busy animal rescue. Anyways, TODAY IS HER FIRST BIRTHDAY! And considering she is a PRINCESS, we should all pay her the respect and congratulation she demands.

The mastermind behind this needlepoint and the bouquet of Churus is the wonderful Joanne Bleam

I don't know why tags aren't working for me today, but if you want a smile and love cats, go look up Tiny Paws and Second Chances and follow along for the Bananashenanegins.

I wanted to share this perfect little frame pairing on a cross stitch I recently framed, and then I realized...

I'VE FRAMED THIS ONE BEFORE... but it's been so long now(2022), I was surprised to see it pop up on my page when I google imaged it to figure out the designer. This is Strawberry Garden (Loose Feathers #18) by Blackbird Designs if you were curious like me.

Now I'm stuck between two perfect pairings. I dare not pick a favorite, but maybe you will!

It's been a long week.
Good occasion to spark and spread some joy.
The incredible beaded impala head went home this week! We picked a beautiful dark teal linen mat that matched his eyes and I wired it straight through that and a piece of plywood so he's good and sturdy. It was a fun challenge, basically sew mounting with thin framing wire. The frame we picked matches his own wire skeleton and is just as contemporary and zany as he it.

I dearly hope his owners finally see fit to give him a proper name. That has been the top question anyone has asked upon seeing this hanging in the shop: WHAT'S HIS NAME?! Lol not ARE THOSE BEADS?! but what is his name.

What say you all? What would you name this fine specimen?

Art makes the best souvenir to remember a trip abroad. It holds memories as well as emotion, and captures a feel from a different part of the world than the one you came from. These two prints came back with my client from a trip to Japan. I think we're both over the moon with how they came out! I noticed that both came with artist's statements, but illegible to us in Japanese kanji. So, I ran them through a quick translation, printed them out, and enveloped both for the back of the frames. That way, the artists she chose to memorialize her trip can be just a little bit more known to her.

I've been thinking quite a bit about this old needlepoint I framed. My client's grandma needlepointed this classic Greek saying some time before she passed and it's been carried around since, waiting to resurface. It roughly translates to "Bean by bean, the bag is filled."
We had a conversation about how that applies to saving and building wealth, as we designed the frame, so obviously we ended up with metallic green and gold mats, evoking our own riches. But it really can pertain to achieving anything with intentionality, little by little... much like the very needlepoint she marked it upon. Stitch by stitch.

It's a wonderful life lesson, but not a saying I had the pleasure of growing up with. Are any of my Greek friends familiar with this? Anyone else remember their yaya saying this, growing up?

How would you like to purchase an original piece of art, already professionally framed, AND support a great cause???

We have a fully furnished gallery wall of original art by Tony Marra. Upon losing his infant granddaughter to Leigh's Syndrome(AKA Mito), he channeled his grief into creating a huge series of palmetto trees. Now we are using that art to spread awareness and raise money towards curing Mito.

Each piece was created with consideration for sustainability, using recycled materials, and eco friendly paints. Even the frames I selected for each piece are second-hand, made from cutoffs from other custom framing orders, or milled out of reclaimed wood from around Horry County.

If you would like to help us save lives and purchase a piece, you can message me directly or come into the frame shop to see them in person. There will also be an album on my page with each individual piece for sale, which will update as more are framed and sold.

Learn more about Leigh's Syndrome or donate in a more direct manner by visiting CureMito.org or Cure MITO Foundation

Check out Tony and follow how he is using his art for the greater good in his community an beyond at Pasquali Paints A FairyTale From The South, PasQuali Marra
