Read up on what we've been up to!

During the compounded national crises and political unrest of Spring 2020, an ensemble of artists and activists across the east coast of the U.S. gathered online to explore and address how the socio-political climate moves and shapes our collective consciousness and artistic practice. How is this moment shifting our personal and collective well-being?

What does it mean to you to be well?

Do you hold hold a space for community care in your experience of personal wellness?

Society, media, and the culture around us have defined many of our personal narratives of wellness, and let’s face it, we are not taught by what we see around us to create an embodied experience of feeling, being and showing up as fully resourced for ourselves and for the world around us.

Let's unlearn and re-learn what it means to show up as our full selves in this ever-changing landscape.

Join us on February 20th as we integrate somatic practice, conscious movement, and creative play to re-awaken an embodied experience towards wellness justice, grounded in an ecosystem of healing, wholeness, and deepened community care.

All gender identities are welcomed into this inclusive space.

Sliding scale. Scholarships available. DM for more info.

The debut of Muffled Voice was a huge success that we are doing an ENCORE! Join us for this free interactive experience on the s*xual assault crisis in Egypt and how we can enact change through art and education.

What would a world without r**e look like?

Our mission is to explore our options as active civilians in the community to enact social change regarding s*xualized violence and to spread awareness on consent, assault, and the social and political laws that have perpetrated the issue for decades.

Through the use of Theatre of the Oppressed, video art, and dialogue we strive to create a fun and interactive space for movement-building and to entice the community to become and remain active participants in our society through empowering ourselves with the tools and education necessary.

Help us create a platform for all the voices that have been muffled for far too long!

This event was made possible through the wonderful collaboration between .coll and theatre collective

What would a world without r**e and s*xual assault look like? What would it feel like if the trauma caused by r**e, s*xual assault, s*xual harassment, misogyny, and s*xual discrimination were dismantled, and instead a space for body positivity and healthy communication around consent were reclaimed to help heal and whole a society overwhelmed by toxic images and representations of s*x?

Join me for a special Qoya class in collaboration with Muffled Voice, a performance with Solidarity in Isolation and Senzalimit Theatre Collectives bringing awareness to the s*xual assault crisis in Egypt, and dismantling r**e culture worldwide.

This class is open to all gender identities.

What is Qoya?

Qoya is movement as medicine. It is based on this simple idea: through movement, we remember.

We remember, that our physical essence is Wise, Wild, and Free.

Wise: inspired by the wisdom of yoga

Wild: reclaiming your true nature through the creative expression in dance

Free: the freedom to feel pleasure in the body through feminine movement

In Qoya, you dance and feel free, connect with yourself AND with all of the other beings in this safe space! There is no other experience like it!

This event is by donation. Register for the event: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/qoya-my-body-my-right-tickets-120517827065

This class is a benefit for the collective in our continued work to raise awareness for the s*xual assault crisis in Egypt, and dismantling r**e culture worldwide.

‼️ When have you felt safe within your body?
‼️ When do you not feel safe within your body?
‼️ What would a world without r**e look like?
‼️ How can we unite across cultures?

Liberation City has the incredible privilege of supporting and collaborating with an incredible ensemble of artists and activists in the Solidarity in Isolation collective. Solidarity in Isolation is an ensemble of artists and activists deploying Theatre of the Oppressed techniques, art, critical education, and collective action to cultivate interactive and intercultural experiences centered on dismantling systemic (in)justice while building communities of care.

We are holding a virtual interactive experience THIS SATURDAY from 11am - 12:30pm EST about the s*xual harassment crisis in the Egyptian community and how we can make a change through art and education.

Our mission is to explore our options as active civilians in the community to enact social change regarding this issue and spreading awareness on consent, assault, and the social and political laws that have perpetrated the issue for decades.

Through the use of Theatre of the Oppressed, we strive to create a fun and interactive rehearsal space for this social movement and to entice the community to become and remain active participants in our society through empowering ourselves with the tools and education necessary.

This event is made possible with collaboration between Dawar Arts, Solidarity in Isolation, and Senzalimit Collective

Today Liberation City in partnership with Paramount Social Movement delivered checks of over $1500 to three organizations working tirelessly to end houselessness in the Grand Strand region. Every single dollar counts, especially when it goes towards saving someone’s life and honoring their humanity.

The funds were generously raised through the Grill to Grill We Care, a Virtual Backyard BBQ event. To the advocates and representatives with Sea Haven, Eastern Carolina Housing Organization and New Directions of Horry County, thank you for your commitment to serving our vulnerable neighbors!

“I don’t see life having value sometimes.”

Will we continue to look the other way or ignore how we have supported systems which de-value and dehumanize life?

This is not spectacle. This is a call to action. This is resistance to the narrative we’ve been told about homelessness. This is not meant to be feel-good sentiment, but rather is an invitation for revolution. A space where performance and activism can merge to light the way into a re-envisioning of our societal structures that perpetuate homelessness in order to, one day, transform our community through civic responsibility and collective action.

We realize that every act of dehumanization is an opportunity for re-humanization. The Liberation City teaser trailer you’re about to see is a testament to how community could come together to envision a city where everyone is flourishing.

This is only the beginning because there is so, so, so much more work to be done.
