The Myakka Music Festival is officially 4 weeks away.

I tried to get a bounce house for the kids… Myakka city has a company that provides bounce houses. If you know them personally, please help me contact them. I reached out by email and on Facebook, but got no response. I could use some help.

How the Myakka Moonlighters Began 🌙🎶

The Myakka Moonlighters started in early 2020 with a simple idea:
give our community a free, welcoming place to gather under the stars and enjoy live local music.

Behind the Myakka City Grocery, a small outdoor stage became home to something special. The first shows were humble — one even happened on a cold, rainy night — but people came anyway. They stayed, listened, and proved that Myakka wanted this.

There was never an admission fee. The only money involved was a hat passed to support the musicians so they could cover their expenses and keep coming back. Families were welcome, kids were welcome, and neighbors brought chairs, shared tables, and made it their own.

What made it work was the community. Local sponsors didn’t just put their names on it — they showed up. Lights were installed, picnic tables repaired and cleaned, artwork hung behind the stage, grounds cared for, and clean restrooms provided. Volunteers passed the hat with smiles. Musicians played for the love of music and connection.

The purpose was simple:
to build community, inspire creativity, and support local musicians in a free, family-friendly space.

No one set out to create a festival.
But when people gather regularly, when music becomes a shared tradition, something bigger naturally grows.

That spirit became the foundation of what later evolved into the Myakka Music Festival — rooted in the same values that started it all:
music, kindness, and community.

Myakka Music Festival, formerly Dag Fest, is moving to a new location, 15240 Fruitville Rd, Old Miakka. We have a new host, Jake Brady of Concrete by Design. It is on the South Side of Fruitville, not far from the Tee. This is a beautiful, shady place, and I'm sure it will be perfect.
