WARNING: LONG POST
It's been a minute since I have posted but I wanted to share with you some exciting news! As most of you already know by now my oldest son has opened a new nursery (Legacy Nursery and Supply) in Tuttle this year and I have been busy assisting in little ways with that. On September 12th, we are going to have a Night Market and I have decided that I am going to take the My Raggedy Herbs trailer and offer some of my herbal goodies at that event.
I usually don't sell a lot of my products except when I am teaching a class but I seem to be having more requests for them so I am going to participate for those of you who have expressed interest and are looking to source high-quality herbal products locally.
I have been practicing herbalism for more than 20 years now and if you have attended any of my classes or workshops then you have probably heard me talk about how I go about deciding what products I am going to formulate. If not, then I will explain. When I started doing all of this, Pinterest and TikTok were not really a thing where there was an abundance of ideas and recipes so I began by formulating according to the needs of my family and by what I had learned in school.
It was my goal to transition my home away from having a traditional over-the-counter medicine cabinet to having a fully stocked apothecary with holistic and herbal remedies for all of our common ailments.
Everything that I have created is based on old-school, traditional herbal practices and not the modern way of doing things. What I mean by that is, many people who make herbal products today are just trying to put out a lot of products quickly so they rush the process. They may "infuse" their herbal oils in a crock pot overnight, make a salve and call it good. But. . . . not me! I still believe in infusing my oils for a minumum of 6-8 weeks. Because of my stubborn ways, the products I make take time.
I also believe that having my hand in the growing makes a huge difference in the outcome of what I make. I rarely purchase herbs but rather use the herbs we grow and know exactly how they have been cultivated. Today, we are growing around 40 different herbs and we still hand harvest, dry, strip and preserve them the slow way. By growing them ourselves, I can select the very best varieties and carefully tend to them. Heat and light are the two biggest enemies to high-quality, preserved herbs so ours do not go into a dehydrator. They are dried the slow way and stored whole-leaf until I am ready to use them.
Over the next few weeks leading up to the market, I will share a few pics and details of some of the products that I will have available. I never grow tired of thinking about what an amazing privilege God has given me. He leads me as I busy my hands and heart making things that bring comfort and joy from His precious gift of plants.
I would love to meet you, or for many of you that I already know, I would love to see you there.
