About the Winner:
My name is Jake Pearson. I grew up in Minnesota and moved to Duluth when I was 19 years old. My brother, Joe, convinced me to pick up a board and give surfing a try. It was a slow learning process on the lake, but it quickly became an addiction. Along the way, I picked up a camera and would try to get a couple of pictures of each swell after surfing. It’s extra tough on good days to spend time out of the water, taking pictures, and not warming up.
This picture was taken on December 19th, 2025. A winter storm moved through the previous day, building the swell across the lake. The morning started around -10°F, with still air and steam rising above the water. The sun brought no relief from the frigid cold other than thoughts of warmer places. It’s on days like this that Stoney Point comes alive.
