- The integration is based on findings from a three-year research process initiated after MLB recognized the Negro Leagues as major leagues in December 2020.
- Legendary power hitter and Hall of Fame catcher Josh Gibson is now recognized as the all-time leader in career batting average with a .372 mark, surpassing Ty Cobb.
- Lifetime numbers from MLB players reflecting their time in the Negro Leagues were also recognized, including those of Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, and Satchel Paige.

- Pro-Palestinian student protestors set up an encampment on Wayne State's campus last week.
- The protestors demand the school halt investments in war manufacturing companies promoting Israel.
- About two dozen tents have been set up inside the "Liberated Zone" on Gullen Mall.
- On Tuesday evening, the encampment had about 20 occupants.
- The university announced the first week of spring/summer classes will be held remotely due to the encampment.
- School officials cite the encampment as creating "an ongoing public safety issue."
- Community members led prayer around 9pm Tuesday as rain forced many inside tents or under cover of nearby lecture halls.
- Protestors blocked the path of a police vehicle and refused entry to a police officer and fire marshal.
- U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, sleeping in a tent at the encampment, questions the safety issues cited by the university.
- Wayne State president Kimberly Andrews Espy mentioned that students declined an in-person meeting with her and other university officials.
- Ridaa Khan, a member of Students for Justice in Palestine, stated that a meeting would require the presence of two other group members.
- The interaction between the encampment leaders and vice president Patrick Lindsey was captured on video by a Free Press reporter.
- Encampment occupants remain committed to meeting with Espy and the board of governors on their terms.

A rare, blue-eyed female Magicicada cassini cicada was spotted during the 2024 emergence at a the The Morton Arboretum in suburban Chicago.

Just how rare they are is uncertain. “It is impossible to estimate how rare since you’d have to collect all the cicadas to know what percentage of the population had the blue eye mutation,” said Floyd W. Shockley, collections manager of the Department of Entomology at the Smithsonian Institute.
