I am Shannon Summers, and I am a 48-year-old Body Piercer, grandmother and lover of life. I have a lot of experience at this thing called life, I love meeting new people and learning who they are. Life is really a one-of-a-kind experience and I love to listen to people's stories and what makes them tick. I own/operate Au Chantae Body Piercing and I have just opened a "Piercing Only" studio in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I am in a quiet, clean and handicap accessible room. It has a quiet, personal feel and there are other rooms available to hair/nail people who need a private space to do their magic. I can't wait to meet you. Hey, beautiful people! Fall is officially settling in, and I’m looking forward to another week at my happy place. 🍂

👀 WHAT’S HAPPENING BACK THERE?

I want to keep talking about something that gets overlooked in piercing care:

We spend a lot of time looking at the FRONT of our jewelry—but when was the last time you checked behind it?

And I don’t mean only while a piercing is new.

Piercing care is a long-term relationship with your body and your jewelry.

As the weather gets cooler, think about the things that start changing in everyday life:

🍂 Hoodies, hats, scarves and sweaters can catch jewelry.
🎧 Headphones and gaming headsets can put pressure on ear piercings.
🏈 Helmets and sports equipment can rub, press or snag jewelry.
😴 Sleeping on an ear night after night can create pressure and irritation.
💇 Hair, hair products and salon visits can affect what’s happening around and behind your jewelry.
💦 Moisture and buildup can hide behind earrings and backs where you don’t normally see it.

And here’s an especially important one:

Check behind butterfly backs. 👀

Don’t let them stay pushed tightly against the ear. Make sure you’re actually looking behind them and keeping that area clean and dry.

For a piercing that is still healing, keep aftercare simple. Sterile wound wash/saline only—no alcohol, peroxide, witch hazel or a collection of home remedies.

If something looks different, feels tight, starts getting irritated, develops buildup, keeps snagging, or you simply don’t know whether what you’re seeing is normal…

You don’t have to wait until something becomes a big problem to ask a question.

And you don’t have to have been pierced by me for me to care about what’s happening with your piercing. 💜

Happy Saturday!! Labor Day is upon us and I can feel fall just around the corner. I am so excited for trick-or-treating this year! Since the school year is in full swing and we are all adjusting to our new routines it is time to ask yourself what might be happening behind your ears if you have a new piercing. Lots of interesting things can happen back there and now matter where you got your ears pierced I want to make sure that you have the information and support you need to have a healthy happy piercing no matter what stage of the process you are at. I am here for you and in the next few days and weeks I will be producing content geared toward education. Sometimes things change and piercings are one of those things that have changed over the years. The days of turning, alcohol, peroxide, etc. have long past and time can get away from us quickly. So take a moment, take a look behind your ears, take a look behind your child’s ear, and ask yourself “What’s Happening Back There?!?!

Please let me know if you have any issues or questions. I am working on fine tuning Echo, my Ai phone assistant and Izzy, my chatbot as well as developing a series to ease your concerns. I want you to know what to expect and how to best prepare for your new piercing. I want you to know what to expect before, during, after and for years to come. I look forward to seeing you real soon.
