I’m excited to share the rocketstove mass heater I constructed. The technology behind these super-efficient wood stoves often boggles the mind because of the conventions we are all used to. This Saturday the family and I were camping at Cedars of Lebanon State Park in Lebanon, TN. We were not aware that they were having WPA days on Saturday with demonstrations of traditional crafts including black smithing, sorghum pressing, pottery among others. While in line for some beans and cornbread I was offered the opportunity to team up with Ryan in a log sawing contest. He had won 3rd place last year with another partner so I was glad to help him bring home the bronze again this year. I'd never used a large saw like this so it was a lot of fun to experience what it was like. @ Cedars of Lebanon State Park

Today I finish up a long term project: a custom playground for a resident of Murfreesboro. It is constructed of rough sawn eastern red cedar, then planed and cut to dimension. The design was a collaboration between the homeowner and myself. Here's to parents who go that extra mile to make a fun and safe environment for their children and for many other neighborhood children! Later today you can see images of the complete playground.

new counter design includes this custom cabinet. It acts as a partition wall separating the retail space from storage and it was built to accommodate two levels of 10 gallon ceramic crocks which contain their delicious ferments. The face of the cabinet is eastern red cedar that has been planned down. The top is a counter made of 2x10 cedar slabs. Take the time to visit Short Mountain Cultures at 1424 John Bragg Hwy, Woodbury, TN. They are making truly exciting foods that have been fermented like tempeh, sauerkraut, kimchi, coconut milk kefir, hot sauces, kvass and more. This design was a collaboration with John Parker and Simmer Tidman and it was birthed from their concepts of community and creativity.
