The Tennessee Association of Dance was chartered in 1971 to encourage and support the development of dance in Tennessee. TAD serves as a central source of information for Tennessee's dance constituencies. We report dance activities, employment opportunities, auditions, master classes and workshops, as well as issues of local and national importance to the field. The Association represents dance--a

s art, as education, and as a profession--to individuals and organizations as appropriate; and informs members of governmental issues that may impact dance in Tennessee. Members of the Association actively participate in statewide arts organizations, local and national dance related organizations, often holding leadership positions. The Tennessee Association is a non-profit corporation that receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Tennessee Arts commission. The Tennessee Association of Dance is an equal opportunity employer; and provides equal opportunity to all applicants for employment, recipients of services and benefits of the Association and participants in Association programs without prejudice in regard to race, color, or national origin.

Bill Evans started developing his own approach to the teaching of modern dance technique in 1968, when he was a member of the Repertory Dance Theatre (RDT) and was invited by Virginia Tanner to teach the advanced teens in her renowned creative dance program at the University of Utah. His work fused influences from classical ballet and the classic modern style in which he was immersing himself—Limón, Graham, Cunningham and Nikolais. He was also strongly influenced by the writing and lectures of Margaret H’Doubler, and he also drew heavily on his many years of immersion in rhythm tap dance as he created a highly personal dance style.

In 1976, Evans invited Peggy Hackney to join his dance company. Ever since then, he has integrated the theories and language of the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System into his teaching of dance technique. Other influences have been applied kinesiology, particularly as taught by Karen Clippinger, and other somatic studies, including Feldenkrais Awareness through Movement, Body-Mind Centering and Functional Awareness.

HUGE CONGRATS to Board member .allenjr for his amazing performance at the 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

“I can’t even wrap my head around what just happened! I have always dreamed of dancing at the Super Bowl, and this weekend it all became a reality!!!

I would like to start off by thanking God for giving me these gifts and allowing me to be a a storyteller through my body! I want to thank my mom and dad for signing me up for dance and for being a constant support! I want to thank my brother and for being my biggest supporters since day 1! I want to thank CCA, and for giving me the foundation and the rigor that was needed. Thank you to all my aunties, cousins, uncles and family friends that supported me throughout all these years!

I remember being a kid and pretending like I was dancing for a celebrity, and traveling to do what I love. This week it all became a reality! Thank you for trusting me to represent your agency, thank you for giving a little black boy from Chattanooga the opportunity of a lifetime. Thank you for creating an iconic show and for trusting me with your incredible choreography! Lastly, thank you to for brining together so many black boys to perform on the worlds biggest stage!

I will forever be grateful for this moment!!! Thank you all so much! Ahhhhh!!”

Hello all from NYC. I just wanted to share an amazing offering from the Dance Education Laboratory (DEL). You may remember their teachers, Michael Kerr, Pat Dye and Catherine Gallant who led the TAD Summit in 2018. This conversation is happening and such an important moment in this nation.
On October 10, I’m joining in a discussion hosted by DEL called “What Has Dance Taught Us About Race?”
What Has Dance Taught Us About Race?
Experiences, Challenges, And Opportunities For Dialogue
October 10, 2:30-5pm ET, $20
Facilitators Ann Biddle and Frederick Curry will lead a discussion with panelists Dian D**g , Eduardo Vilaro of Ballet Hispanico , Dr. Martha Eddy and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar of Urban Bush Women .
Panelists will share personal experiences in dance education and professional & artistic pursuits. Then, all participants will join small group discussions to talk about racial challenges we’ve faced and overcome in dance and what opportunities we see for ourselves and the field.
It’s so important to engage in a collective dialogue on opportunities for dismantling racial inequality in dance and dance education. Be part of the discussion. We’ll be there!
