This lovely "Orchids" sculpture, created by metal artist Frank Castiglione, now resides in the Munising Public Library for all the community and visitors of the library to enjoy. This sculpture was purchased shortly after Frank's passing in 2015 by the Munising Bay Arts Association and has resided at UP~Scale Art since it opened in 2016. We felt it was time for this piece to be enjoyed by more folks and felt this the best place for us to donate it. The Munising Bay Arts Association has also made a modest cash donation to the Munising Public Library as we are always appreciative of their support of the arts. ❤

Munising's Art in the Alley - Call for submissions

The Munising Downtown Development Authority is accepting submissions for additional art for our downtown Art in the Alley. Artists are invited to submit works in any medium they wish to display in Munising’s Art in the Alley. Reproductions of the works will be displayed in one-dimension prints of varying sizes throughout the alley. Submissions are only accepted from Alger County residents.

Those interested in submitting images of their artwork should do so by emailing their JPEG files to Kathy Reynolds at [email protected] by Friday March 3, 2023. If their work is chosen, the artist will need to be prepared to produce high-resolution photos/files of their work(s). Questions may be directed to Kathy Reynolds or Pat Sanderson at the Munising Downtown Development Authority (located in the Fuzzy Boyak Welcome Center), 129 E. Munising Avenue, Munising, MI, 906-387-1110.

Become an Isle Royale Summer 2023 Teen Artist!

Applications for Isle Royale National Park's 2023 Teen Artist Exploration will be accepted between January 2 and February 16, 2023. This artistic discovery is geared to all aspiring teen artists who want to develop their art through experiencing wilderness, and is open to all visual and performing artists, writers, and composers ages 13 to 18 at time of participation.

Over the course of six days, two selected teen artists will explore their art and the island--hike and backpack along wave-washed shores, canoe quiet bays of Lake Superior, or sketch wildlife among the boreal forest. A mentor will provide coaching during the artistic and wilderness exploration. Artists must be available for the scheduled dates of the summer 2023 program: July 21 – 26, 2023

The 2023 program is a six-day, five-night camping experience in the Rock Harbor area. All applicants must be comfortable camping on a remote island. Park rangers and the program mentor will assist with ferry transportation, campground reservations, and camping equipment. A legal guardian must accompany a teen artist seventeen or younger.

On the first and last day of the program, selected artists and their families (up to 4 people total) will receive complimentary transportation to and from the island provided on RANGER III, a 165-foot ship operating from Houghton, Michigan.

Visit the Teen Artist Exploration website for the online submission process: https://www.nps.gov/isro/getinvolved/teen-artist.htm.

To be considered, all application components must be digitally received by 11:59 pm on February 16, 2023. Entries received after February 16 will not be considered. Notification to all applicants will be made by May 1, 2023. For further information, visit the park’s website, call (906) 482-0984, or email [email protected].
