We’ve had a few questions about why elderberry features so prominently in our Herb Harvest Fall Festival promotions. Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17 are the perfect time of year to propagate this shrub so it can produce a strong harvest next season. It’s also the time when many of us pull out the elderberries we froze over the summer to make tinctures, shrubs, and syrups that support our health through the winter.
On Saturday, October 17, two of our eight speakers—Ramona Slick and Ronda Hughes—are offering workshops on propagating and cultivating this valuable medicinal shrub, along with classes focused on its culinary and medicinal uses. You’ll get hands‑on experience both in growing elderberry plants and in making delicious elderberry treats.
Both Friday and Saturday morning sessions include in‑depth talks where attendees can learn, ask questions, and connect with others who share an interest in gardening, herbalism, and homesteading.
In the afternoons, you’ll choose two hands‑on workshops led by expert instructors. These small‑group classes give you the chance to plant, forage, prepare, and work directly with the herbs that interest you most.
Your event price includes speaker fees, handouts, and all materials and supplies for the hands‑on workshops. We’ve been able to keep the cost low thanks to a generous grant from the Committee of One Hundred for the Ozark Folk Center, the event details are supported by the The Herb Society of America Ozark Unit, and because several speakers donated their expertise.
