Our exploration of le toucher — the sense of touch — filled our tables with textures that couldn't be more different from one another. And with every single one came its name, in French and in English.
What our hands discovered:
🌵 Piquant / spiky — bumpy balls covered in soft rubber spikes. Squeeze them and they push right back.
🫧 Gluant / slimy — cool blue slime that stretches, drips, and never quite stays put.
🫐 Gélatineux / squishy — gel pads packed with hundreds of tiny beads that roll and shift under an open palm.
🎨 Lisse et glissant / smooth and slippery — thick paint spread across a tray, following wherever a finger leads.
🤲 Mou / soft dough — clay pressed flat, then lifted to reveal a perfect little handprint.
🧊 Solide et froid / solid and cold — ice cubes, hard at first, melting slowly away.

Our exploration of le toucher filled the table with textures that behave differently the moment you touch them. Ice cubes that are hard and solide — until they start to melt. Bath bombs that hiss and dissolve into effervescent foam. Soft squishy dough that squeezes flat between the fingers. Clouds of fluffy bubbles you can scoop up in both hands.
Every texture came with its words, in French and in English:
🧊 solide / solid — hard, cold, unmoving
🫧 effervescent / fizzy — it bubbles, it disappears
🤲 mou, pâte molle / squishy, soft dough — it changes shape when you press
☁️ mousseux / fluffy — light, airy, full of air
❄️ froid / cold — the first word every hand learns

Our friends compared the bumpy grip of a Zen sensory strip against the velvet softness of felt. They pressed, traced, and turned each one over. And as they did, they picked up the words to describe what they were feeling — in French and in English.

Our friends explored le toucher, the sense of touch, through natural air-dry clay. They squeezed it. They flattened it. They pinched the edges up into little bowls and poked holes straight through the middle just to see what would happen.
Then came the best part: pressing one hand flat into the clay, holding still… and lifting it away to find every finger, every crease, every line of their own palm looking back at them.

What their hands were really learning:
🤲 Strength in the fingers and palms — the same muscles they'll need to hold a pencil
🧠 Cause and effect: I press, it changes
🗣️ New words in two languages — froid / cold, doux / soft, mou / squishy, lisse / smooth
🌿 Focus and calm, the kind that only comes from working slowly with your hands
❤️ Pride in something they made themselves

Today at French-American Académie, our friends explored the alphabet with playdough! Rolling, pinching, and pressing the dough along each letter builds the hand strength and finger control children need for writing — while they learn letter shapes and sounds through touch. Multi-sensory learning at its best. 🖐️✨

🦴✨ Today at French-American Académie, we became bone detectives!✨🦴

Our little scientists dove into a full week exploring the human body and the excitement in the classroom was absolutely contagious.

🩻 We studied real X-rays.Hands, spines, ribs, teeth, feet — the children matched each X-ray to the body part it belonged to, then pointed to that same part on their own bodies. "That's MY hand!" You could see the moment it clicked.

🦴 We built skeletons.Cotton swabs became ribs and arms. Paper strips became legs. Chalk became bones drawn on black paper. Every child assembled a full skeleton, piece by piece, learning where the skull sits, how the spine connects, why our bones matter.

🎵 We rhymed and moved.Cat–hat, dog–log, frog–hog. Our phonological awareness games had everyone laughing, clapping, and hearing the music inside words in both French and English.

💪 We practiced our routines together, stretching our arms high, helping one another, and celebrating each other's work.

🧠✨ Today at the French-American Académie: "My Head, My Feelings"

Our current theme, All About Me, led us straight to… the head! And everything inside it. 💛

🎨 Family Puppet each child created their own face out of kraft paper: eyes, mouth, hair, hat. "That's me!"
😊😢😠😲 Feelings / Les sentiments— naming what we feel, in English and in French: happy/heureux, sad/triste, mad/fâché, surprised/surpris
🧘 The Calming Corner— "I can take 5 deep breaths, draw, read a book, play with playdough"
✍️ Tracing the letters J and D— getting ready to write
🧵 Lacing buttons and shapes— fine motor skills, focus, perseverance
🔷 Shapes and colors-in two languages — yellow triangle / triangle jaune

Behind every craft there's real developmental work: recognizing your own emotions, reading them in others, and learning to calm yourself down. That's the foundation for everything else. 🌱

This month our little explorers discover… themselves! 👧🏽👦🏻
🧠 What we're doing:
🪞 My body — head, arms, legs, hands and feet, named in French AND English
👀 The five senses — sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell
👕 Clothing — shirt, pants, hat, coat, shoes and socks
🫧 Staying healthy — handwashing, sleep, brushing teeth, exercise
🎨 Creative projects: mirror self-portraits inspired by Picasso, paper-bag puppets, "Measure Me" with blocks, dramatic play with real-life roles, and music & movement.
📚 Skills: Letters Ff, Mm, Aa, Pp, Tt, Oo • Numbers 1 & 2 • Brown circle • Character trait: Kindness • Bilingual vocabulary, phonological awareness, fine motor skills, self-awareness and cooperation.
