Spent the afternoon at the Plein Air Convention & Expo in Branson, MO.
Walked the public art show and vendor floor and came away genuinely inspired. The level of work on display was extraordinary. I took photos of several pieces that stopped me in my tracks — artists I'll be following closely.
I had many great conversations that I won't soon to forget. Great experience. Worth every minute. I'll be watching this event for next year. I'd love to be part of it.

Just finished a new piece.
Last year I attended an event at a venue called The Gilded Peacock. I loved the name so much I had to paint it. The peacock rests against a rich botanical background, painted in full detail. The bird itself is built on a base of gold leaf with transparent and opaque layers painted over it — giving it a sheen no paint alone could achieve.

Last year I entered the same painting competition that I entered this year with the quail in the snow painting, Cold Feet. This one is last year's entry. Its called Flightline. (Acrylic on Hardboard Panel - 13x18)
I do not paint wildlife often, seems to be when this competition rolls around. I've had a lot of fun painting these two the last couple years. I'm sure I'll continue to enter year after year. As along as I am enjoying it!

I wouldn't consider myself a wildlife painter, although I have painted Bobwhite quails for this same wildlife painting competition two years in a year! I try to leave a particular mark in the way I paint. I want it to be telling of my work regardless of subject.

I have finished my first painting of 2026. It's also a painting entered into the Cane Hill Juried art competition. The subject is always either The Bobwhite Quail or the Eastern Wild Turkey. I've entered now two years in a row.
This piece is called Cold Feet. It's a play on the inside joke connected to this painting. My 8 year old niece, when asked what she thought I was painting, she looked at me with a judgmental face, and said "chickens in the snow", as if to say, "That's the best you can do!?"
So "Cold Feet" is a play on the idea of chickening out. Making these three in fact chickens in the snow! Haha
