Hey, friends!

Just sharing a new poem. You can view it on my Substack at the link below!

This is a semi-continuation of the motif of “Bong Hits for Ukraine”, which I plan to upload sometime soon as an “archive”. 🫶🏻

What an incredible, magical week it was!

This wasn’t my first Hillberry, but it was my first Hillberry as an official Live Artist. And it was a life-changing experience. And what better place to celebrate turning 26, too!

I saw so many familiar faces that I look forward to seeing every single year, and met so many wonderful, new humans! The power of connection and humanity is never lost on me, but especially not after this week!

I was pretty nervous. My first Hillberry as an official Live Artist - I felt like I had a lot to prove. But the kindness I received from so many folks made it easy to do!

Thank you, everyone, for the incredible memories and opportunities! Much love to you all!

There’s a few folks I wanna give a shout out to. The first being the Art Director of this incredible festival - Nathan. He did a lot of hard work to prepare for us to be able to display our art, especially behind the scenes. He also picks a great crew of artists that I feel so lucky to be a part of!

I also wanna give a quick shout-out to the community that connected me with Zack and the rest of the crew for their poem about trash clean up and the responsibility we all have for our common home. I kinda laughed and shrugged at the concept when Zack mentioned it, but it was an incredibly cathartic poem for me to write, for many a reason too long to post about here. And I know he (and most of them) won’t see this, but I know word travels. So. Thank you! All!

Also, a quick shout out to Kim and Rhonda for 1) making my birthday absolutely iconic with that sick blanket. That looks exactly like my typewriter!! And for 2) always being a beacon of joy and happiness at The Farm. They were part of the first group of folks that ever got a poem from me at The Farm, when I showed up to my first Hillberry in 2023 and they’ve been so kind to stop by ever since! If you don’t know these wonderful souls, you’re missing out! Big time!

I also wanna thank the universe/God/whoever for this wonderful, amazing opportunity to live this life. A few years ago, I would’ve never thought this much joy would be possible, let alone a reality for me. But I am so, so lucky. And I hope I never take this for granted.

There’s so many more folks I could talk about, but this post would be 10 miles long. So. If you spoke to me, got a poem from me, or even just stopped for a moment - thank you! I love you!

Anyways, if you made it this far - I can’t wait to see everyone again next year down on The Farm! 🫶🏻🥰🥹

I wrote this poem a week after my mom passed away. Today marks two years since her death.

My mom and I had a very difficult, very tumultuous relationship the last 6 or so years of her life. Things happened that I could never forget, and I’ve only just now forgiven.

This poem was written at a time when my life was HEAVY with grief. This poem was inspired by the song “Volunteer” by Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit off their album “Weathervanes”. If you know anything about me, you’d know that Jason Isbell is one of, if not my all-time favorite songwriters. I love his work so much, I have a tattoo inspired by his song “Dreamsicle”, that I show off, proudly, on my right arm. “Volunteer” came at a time in my life that I really needed it - grappling with the deaths of my mother and grandmother - and having never truly had to grieve anyone before, it was intense.

This poem is a goodbye letter to my mom. I spent years trying to figure out how to let her go, and it wasn’t until this poem that I truly started processing it. I miss my mom a lot, but I also don’t. Life is full of strange little dichotomies, I guess this is just another one.
