Diana's Acrylic Fall Scene class was much enjoyed everyone who participated. She really does a good job breaking down the process to make excellent results obtainable for those with little to no painting experience. A week from now, she has another workshop scheduled Friday, Oct 16th from 6 - 8, where we'll be painting pumpkins. There are still spots available. Another batch of students recently finished the beginner and intermediate stained glass class at the end of September. October's group is starting this evening and is full. November's session is nearly sold out. I added another class before the end of the year during the month of December on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 - 8pm. Projects will be completed by Christmas! Story time - about the art.

Larry the Chicken Lizard Cannon - by Matthew Bustillo

"This piece was one of my more recent drawings. I’ve been on a spree of drawing parade floats celebrating the war victories of my smaller creatures. Most “floats” are made from the carcasses of larger creatures who were slain by the small creatures parading them. In this particular piece the Lizard Chicken’s body has been outfitted into a firework canon by two skeletal fire sprites named Francis and Francisco. They are shown pulling the float and igniting fireworks! This is the first diptych in my work, attaching two drawings into one scene. It includes a smaller framed drawing featuring a snake-filled firework explosion that was launched from the larger drawing.
This piece was inspired by my favorite pastime, stuffing fireworks into a rubber chicken named Larry. Then repairing his mangled body with the body of a rubber lizard."

Matthew's art is currently featured at the Gallery of Gambier now through the end of October. In addition to the framed originals and ready-to-frame prints, Matthew prepared a number of new Lord of the Rings inspired items for Mount Vernon's Middle Earth event currently on display as well. This work of art and more are available to purchase at the Gallery, Wed - Sat, 12 - 5pm.

Matthew obtained a BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati and currently lives in Mount Vernon. He is planning to have some figure drawing workshops at the Gallery on Gambier or possibly at Happy Street. Stay tuned for updates.
