BACO seeks to promote awareness and support for African-Americans through its meetings, membership and activities. Open to all students, BACO was created to help provide avenues for change and empower its members. In addition, BACO encourages awareness of African and African-American issues which are achieved through programs and projects initiated by BACO for the campus and outlying areas. Throug

h these general objectives, BACO strives to heighten awareness of African Americans socially, culturally and academically. As the oldest student organization at Cornell, we have changed names several times while retaining the same purpose:

Black Student Organization of Cornell College – Feb 5 1969
Afro-American Society of Cornell College, November 5, 1969
Students for Black People (SFBP) - February 22, 1973
Black Awareness Cultural Organization (BACO) December 1986
