This is a really exciting week for us. Why? There are rare occasions where studios will allow us to share our single screen with another studio, meaning we can bring you TWO very different films this weekend!

COYOTE VS. ACME (PG) will be playing Thursday-Sunday, including a few matinees on Friday for Mount Vernon CSD students who don't have school. This film was dropped by Warner Brothers because they thought it would bomb, and was picked up by Ketchup Entertainment, a small distributor. Guys. It did NOT bomb. Released a few weeks ago, this has been a favorite film for all ages and currently has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

EDIE ARNOLD IS A LOSER (PG-13) is playing for one screening only on Saturday at 7:30pm. A fast-paced, irreverent comedy, this one is a crowd pleaser built to be seen BIG and LOUD in a theater. On the recommendation of MV Poet Laureate and Cornell professor Scott Russell Morris (who knows one of the actresses in the film!), we connected with the distributor and were approved to show this film just once at The Bijou. If it goes well, we *might* be approved for an encore screening in a few weeks!

The October lineup at The Bijou looks incredible!

We have a mix of family-friendly animation, PG-13 comedy and action, a little nostalgia, a psychological thriller, and a SXSW independent film coming for one screening only...all in the month of October. Exciting!

I asked the youth if it would appropriate to say "We're cooked!", but they told me that was, in fact, not the appropriate use of the phrase. (Apparently we don't want to be "cooked" - it's a bad thing?) So I guess I am an elder and should just invite you to The Bijou because we have some great offerings for you and your people. We'd love to see you!

“Watching it with a crowd is one of the funniest experiences I’ve had in theaters so far.” - Juju Green, “Straw Hat Goofy”

A celebration and animated representation of Filipino culture and folklore, FORGOTTEN ISLAND is getting excellent reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Come see it this weekend at The Bijou, and be prepared for:

💙a LOT of color and electrifying visuals, a la Spiderverse
💙fast-paced and lots of twists in the storyline
💙a fair amount of jokes that will go over the heads of little patrons, but teens and adults will understand
💙enchanting Filipino folklore, culture, and family traditions
💙a 1990s storyline, complete with a few 90s songs and fashion sprinkled in
💙stimulating animation and anime - a blend of both 2D and CG styles

This is a unique week for The Bijou:

🏈It is homecoming week for Mount Vernon! Which means 3 of my 4 employees are living their best lives during their senior year of homecoming week. Sophie (my Lisbon rock star) and I will be holding it down at the theater this weekend.

🌾One more chance to see Iowa & The Broken Circle on Tuesday night at 6:30pm.

💫One more chance to see Practical Magic 2 on Wednesday at 2pm. It's an early out matinee, y'all!

🏝 Forgotten Island (rated PG) opens on Thursday! We'll have this movie for 2 weeks, so if you also have a busy homecoming week/weekend, you can catch this movie next weekend, too!
