Now Online:
ICYMI, our Earth & Fire artist talk with Ken Matsuzaki and Noah Hughey-Commers is now available to watch online!
📽
Moderated by Noah Hughey-Commers, the talk dives into Matsuzaki’s life and work as a ceramic artist. In his more recent work, Matsuzaki is handbuilding, cutting away at the clay much as a sculptor would while maintaining its rugged character and energy. The artist talk took place on May 24, 2024, as part of a special workshop series at DCC.

DCC & Muddy Creek Pottery are honored to invite you to a FREE artist talk with world-renowned ceramic artist, Ken Matsuzaki.
🍵
Moderated by Noah Hughey-Commers, the talk will dive into Matsuzaki’s life and work as a ceramic artist. Matsuzaki’s work draws strongly from the Oribe-yaki tradition that dates back to sixteenth-century Japan. A selection of Matsuzaki’s ceramics will be displayed at DCC during the talk for viewers to appreciate in context of the experiences he shares. Earth and Fire marks the first time since 2008 that Matsuzaki has presented and spoken about his work in the DMV region.

Sunday, February 25, 12-3 PM:
🪴
In this 3-hour workshop, artist Caylynn Fahey will demonstrate how shellac and wax resist can be used to create sculptural and painterly surface designs on your clay. After applying shellac to leather-hard clay, students will use water to selectively reveal beautiful relief textures. Caylynn will also share design techniques using wax resist (outside of the glazing process!).
