Happy Avett Day!
Avett Day was first declared by the Town of Mount Pleasant Board of Commissioners on January 10, 2022, to be observed annually on February 7. Reverend Clegg Avett, Martha Avett, Jim Avett, Susie Avett, Bonnie Avett Rini, Scott Avett and Seth Avett were each honored in the proclamation.

On the fourth Avett Day in 2025, we celebrated Avett Day by sharing a link of the Orion’s Belt music video filmed in the old Paula Theater and a teaser of things to come. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1ALmubaFmA/
On this, the fifth Avett Day in 2026, we are celebrating Avett Day by sharing the new website for the planned Avett Theater in downtown Mount Pleasant. The theater, named to honor the artistic contributions of Cabarrus County’s own Avett family, will be renovated as a music and performing arts venue and operated as a nonprofit organization, bringing a rich tradition of performing arts to Mount Pleasant, NC and the region. Be one of the first to make a donation towards building renovations to bring the historic Paula Theater back as The Avett Theater.

For those of you that don't know, the Avett family has been part of the Mount Pleasant community for 75 years. The Reverend Clegg Avett ministered at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church for six years starting in 1947, a time during which Jim Avett was born to Clegg and his wife Martha, who was a teacher, concert pianist and church organist. During that time, Rev. and Mrs. Avett bought property and put down roots to which Jim would later return with his wife Susie to raise a family, after serving in the Navy and working as a bridge-building welder. Jim and Susie returned to eastern Cabarrus County from Wyoming, and their children Bonnie, Scott, and Seth attended A.T. Allen Elementary, Mount Pleasant Middle, and Mount Pleasant High Schools. During and shortly after high school, Scott and Seth worked with separate bands Margo and Nemo 1934 who both played multiple gigs at Mount Pleasants' best venue the "Lion's Hut" in the late 1990s. Scott and Seth went on to form The Avett Brothers and achieved great success in doing so, recording multiple albums, touring, and receiving several Americana Music awards, Grammy nominations, and induction into the NC Music Hall of Fame. Jim Avett also has quite a music career as a guitar-picking story-teller and holds annual show through the Cabarrus Arts Council at the Davis Theater in downtown Concord. The talented Bonnie Avett Rini often joins her father and brothers singing and playing the piano. Jim and Scott are also accomplished visual artists in painting and printmaking.
