Finishing up Hispanic Heritage Month with 3rd grade Mexican Mirrors, 2nd grade Ojo de Dios, 1st grade Spanish Guitars, and 4th grade Molas! 5th grade Alebrijes are taking a bit longer, so stay tuned!

5th grade started adding plaster to their newspaper armature! These sculptures are inspired by Mexican Alebrijes! We’ll be painting them with bright colors and patterns!

If y’all haven’t heard, our Art class may be moving to a portable for the much needed renovations! Not ideal, but also not a bad deal. This is my 28th year teaching Art in a public school. Not my first portable. Not my most challenging situation. We’ll make it work! 😊
We’ll adapt, overcome, have fun, and continue creating!
We. Got. This. 👍🏼

2nd grade Ojo de Dios for Hispanic Heritage Month! I’m not gonna lie. There might have been a few tears of frustration with this project. 😭Tying knots and wrapping yard in a specific pattern requires fine motor skill that are very challenging for 2nd grade, but the pride and sense of accomplishment is SO worth it!
Next week, we’ll finish these and start a radial design for presenting and displaying!

OMG🥰
Check Artsonia.com next week for a “Fat Cat Sat on a Mat” created by your Kindergartner!

Started alebrijes sculptures with 5th grade this week! Our Mexican mythological creatures start with armature made from a water bottle, newspaper, and masking tape. Once we get the basic form, we’ll use plaster and paper mache, and finish by painting them with colorful patterns!

I thought 4th grade was losing interest in getting this still-life project finished, but they’re turning out better than I expected! I love the variety and creativity! 🤩
