What a day.

From all of us at the Mount Gretna Arts Council — thank you.

Today’s Mount Gretna Summer Kickoff may have started as a rainy-day “Plan B,” but the Playhouse quickly filled with music, conversation, art, food, laughter, and community.

Hundreds of visitors wandered through the Playhouse throughout the afternoon, lingering between performances, visiting organization tables, browsing the silent and live auction items, enjoying food and refreshments, reconnecting with neighbors, and celebrating the beginning of another Mount Gretna summer together.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to:
• every organization that participated
• every volunteer and crew member who helped transform the Playhouse
• every business, donor, and advertiser who supported the 2026 Summer Calendar Booklet
• every artist who donated auction items
• everyone who bid on and supported the auctions
• every performer who shared their talents
• every food and beverage partner
• and every visitor who came out despite the rain

Special thanks as well to everyone who helped us pivot from an outdoor event to a full Playhouse experience. What could have been a dreary weather day instead became something uniquely Mount Gretna — cozy, creative, welcoming, and filled with community.

Hearing music echo through the Playhouse while rain fell outside will become one of those Mount Gretna memories we talk about for years.

And just like that, summer arrived — and so did that unmistakable Mount Gretna spirit.

Rain? In Mount Gretna? During a major community event? Honestly… it would feel suspicious if there wasn’t at least a little weather drama.

But don’t worry — Summer Kickoff is officially ON and the Playhouse will be buzzing with activity as organizations, musicians, food vendors, auction items, and volunteers transform the space into a cozy under-the-roof celebration of everything we love about Mount Gretna.

The silent auction tables are filling up.
The live auction lineup is ready.
The food, beer, and wine are waiting.
And the community spirit is very much intact.
So grab a raincoat, embrace the adventure, and come spend the afternoon wandering through the Playhouse with neighbors, visitors, artists, musicians, and organizations from across Mount Gretna.

Honestly, a rainy day in the Playhouse might end up becoming one of those classic Mount Gretna memories we talk about for years.

It appears Mother Nature may be adding some dramatic atmosphere to Saturday’s Summer Kickoff.

But don’t worry — the show goes on.

We’re moving the entire celebration under one roof to the historic Mount Gretna Playhouse, right beside the Hall of Philosophy grounds. Music, food, auctions, community organizations, and all the summer energy you were promised…now comfortably under the roof of one of Mount Gretna’s most iconic gathering spaces.

Honestly, listening to music while the rain falls outside the Playhouse feels a little like sitting on a Mount Gretna porch during a summer storm.

Don’t let a little rain change your plans — we’ll see you on Saturday!

Mount Gretna Has Its Own Liberty Bell!

We are proud to share that the Mount Gretna Arts Council has sponsored the placement of Mount Gretna's Liberty Bell — an original work by Mount Gretna native and artist Ryan Fretz — now on view at the Playhouse on Pennsylvania Avenue through the 2026 summer season.

Every colorful figure covering the bell represents a voice — out of many, one. A powerful reminder that the American experiment is alive and well, and that democracy belongs to all of us, everywhere.

In Ryan's own words: "Our Bell is meant to represent the true greatness of America in our many voices rising together as one demanding to be free people."

A special thank you to the Pennsylvania Chautauqua for graciously allowing the bell to be displayed on their grounds.

As you wander around town this summer — especially during this Saturday's Summer Kickoff festivities — take a moment to visit Mount Gretna's Liberty Bell beside the Playhouse… it makes a great selfie spot!

No house concert tonight…which feels a little strange.

But next Friday, we’re back at the Firehall—and it’s not to be missed.

Bobbi Carmitchell returns after playing at our very first house concert in the Firehall—an evening that had people asking on the spot when she’d be back.

Well…now we know.

This time she’s joined by Francis Miller, Trixie Greiner, and Tammi Hessen—together calling themselves Heading Home. Friends, great songs, and that easy, genuine kind of music-making that feels just right in the room.

If you were there the first time, you know the feeling.
If you weren’t…this is your chance.

Friday, April 10 • 7 PM
Mount Gretna Firehall
41 Boulevard St, Mount Gretna
Suggested donation: $15

We’ll see you next Friday.

Mount Gretna. A word, please.

This week handed us 78 glorious degrees, whispered "flip flops, baby" in our ear... and then immediately put us back in a parka. If you briefly panicked that you'd blinked and missed the entire summer — we get it. Reasonable reaction.

But here's the good news: summer hasn't happened yet — but it will, and it's going to be spectacular.

Saturday, May 23rd | 3–6pm | Hall of Philosophy & grounds | Free & open to all. The 2026 Mount Gretna Summer Kickoff is where it all begins. More than 36 organizations come together under the trees to kick off a season packed with concerts, theater, a juried art show, festivals, and everything else that makes a Mount Gretna summer unforgettable. Food, drinks, live music, silent auction — and the live auction of this stunning original oil painting by local artist Faith Mumma.

And you can leave your mark on the season before May 23rd arrives. The 2026 Mount Gretna Summer Events Calendar — the free, beloved, grabbed-off-every-counter guide to everything happening all summer long across all of Mount Gretna — is still accepting supporters through April 1st:
--$35 — Individual/household listing
--$75 — Business listing
--Half- or full-page ad — Go big

Basically, you become part of the summer before it even starts.
