Sonnentag Theatre at the IceHouse opens the comedy, Me and Jezebel, Sept 12 – Oct 5, 2025

[Mount Dora, FL] The IceHouse Theatre continues its 78th Season with a lighthearted comedy about stage legend, Bette Davis overstaying her welcome at the home of a devoted fan. The show is slated for 16 performances over four weekends, Sept. 12 – Oct. 5, 2025. Show times are Thursdays 7:30, Fridays 8:00, Saturdays 2:00 and Sundays 2:00 and one Wednesday (Oct. 1 only) 7:30. Performances will take place at The IceHouse Theatre, 1100 N. Unser St., Mount Dora, FL 32757.

It is 1985 in the story; Ms. Davis is 77 years old, has had three strokes, a hip replacement and a mastectomy, but she is still hanging in there. By chance, she meets writer Liz Fuller through a mutual friend, Robin Brown, when they attend a casual cookout at the Fuller’s Connecticut home. Coincidentally, a major hotel strike in New York has caused Bette to need a place to stay for ‘a day or two.’ The result is the most unexpected month of the Fullers’ lives, as the star arrives with a limo full of luggage and proceeds to take over the household’s activities for an increasingly torturous 30 days.

In the role of Bette Davis is Whitney Goin, who appeared as the neurotic Florence, in the IceHouse production of The Odd Couple: Female Version, last season. Playing Liz Fuller is Stephanie Williams, who was seen as the disheveled Olive in that successful run of The Odd Couple, on this stage.

The production is directed by IceHouse managing artistic director, Darlin Barry, scenic design by Buddy Fales, costume design by Darlin Barry and lighting design by Philip Lupo and Diego Ford.

The Story: Actor Michael Dorsey has a talent for losing jobs. Out-of-work and desperate, he makes a last-ditch effort at getting a gig by disguising himself as mature actress, Dorothy Michaels. When Dorothy’s career takes off, he finds himself trapped, as his lies are damaging every relationship in his life, yet it’s the success and fame he has been seeking. Every character has an interesting, well-written journey in this very funny, yet thoughtful and intelligent musical. Role descriptions are below:

Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels (40-45. Range A2 – D5) Michael is outspoken, stubborn, abrasive, frustrated and desperate to be a successful actor. Dorothy Michaels is strong-willed, understanding, and humorous. Slightly vain and completely lovable.

Jeff Slater (30-45. Range B2 – D5) Michael's roommate. A sardonic realist who lacks the ambition to live up to his potential. The voice of reason, Jeff sees the humor of situations; he is blunt and honest.

Max Van Horn (25-35. Top range: G4) A self-obsessed actor with a limited wit. A firm believer in his own hype who can’t imagine anyone not being attracted to him.

Ron Carlisle (40-55. Range F #2 – B4) An incredibly successful choreographer/director. He demands respect and is often disrespectful in return. The role requires dance skills.

Stan Fields (50-60. Any vocal range.) Michael’s overworked agent. Always to the point, he plays the game, but hates it.

Stuart (30-50. Range Eb3 – G4) He is the composer of Juliet's Curse.

Julie Nichols (30-40. Range E3 – G5) An actor at a crossroads in her life. Focused, self-aware and self-assured. She masks her pain and longs to connect.

Sandy Lester (30-40. Range G #3 – E5) Michael's ex-girlfriend, now a friend. She’s neurotic, pessimistic and self-deprecating. She makes her anxieties known loudly and really just wants to be happy.

Rita Marshall (50-65. Range F3 – B4) A levelheaded producer. Experienced and the voice of sanity and reason in a swirling pool of crazy. She is always a beat ahead of everyone and is very New York.

Suzie (30-50. Bb3 – Bb4) She is the lyricist of Juliet's Curse.

Ensemble (20s-40s. All vocal ranges.) Dance, vocal and acting talents needed in three male and three female triple threats who play everyone else in NYC, and the characters in the show-within-the-show, ‘Juliet’s Curse’.

The Sonnentag Theatre at the IceHouse presents
THE ODD COUPLE: FEMALE VERSION
Sept. 13 – Oct. 6, 2024

[Mount Dora, FL] The IceHouse opens the second show of its 77th Season, the charming comedy, The Odd Couple: Female Version, by Neil Simon, on September 13 at 8 pm. Performances run to October 6, 2024. Show times are Thursdays 7:30, Fridays 8:00, Saturdays and Sundays 2:00, and one Wednesday (Oct. 2) 7:30. The show dates are Sept. 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21, 22, 26, 27, 28, 29, Oct. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

The Story: With a nod to the original Odd Couple script, Simon had fun twisting the story around for women to inhabit the roles of the iconic messy vs. neat roommates – Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Four close female friends, Vera, Renee, Mickey and Sylvie, an amusing foursome of quirky personalities, are on hand for weekly Trivial Pursuit game nights at Olive’s apartment. When Florence arrives and announces she’s getting divorced and has nowhere to go, Olive offers her spare room – and so, the mismatch begins. Eager to get back into the dating pool and to pull Florence in with her, Olive invites two eligible, charming neighbors, the Costazuela brothers, over for dinner and possible romance – with disastrously funny results.

The cast is a talented ensemble of eight led by Stephanie Williams as the messy newswoman, Olive Madison, and Whitney Goin as the neurotic neatnik bookkeeper, Florence Unger. The Trivial Pursuit gal pals are played by Ava Tunstall, Marylin McGinnis, Michelle Buehler and Molly Hicks. The Spanish neighbors in the building, Manolo and Jesus Costazuela, are played by Thomas Muniz and Daniel Martinez.

The production is directed by Darlin Barry, with scenic design by Buddy Fales, lighting design by Philip Lupo, and costume and sound design by Darlin Barry.

Sonnentag Theatre at the IceHouse opens
SHOUT! The Mod Musical, March 22 – April 14, 2024

[Mount Dora, FL] The IceHouse opens the 1960s singing and dancing r***e, SHOUT! The MOD Musical, on Friday, March 22 at 8 pm. The production will run for 16 performances over four weekends, March 22 – April 14, 2024 at The IceHouse, 1100 N. Unser St., Mount Dora, FL 32757.

SHOUT! The Mod Musical was created by Phillip George and David Lowenstein, with narrative segments by Peter Charles Morris and Phillip George. The r***e features pop recordings made famous by 1960s British and American female singers, including Petula Clark, Lulu, Dusty Springfield, Shirley Bassey, Cilla Black and Nancy Sinatra.

The framework for the r***e is the popular British fad magazine, ‘SHOUT!’ with a well-known advice columnist, Gwendolyn Holmes, offering stereotypical, and inadvertently humorous, advice to young women in the 1960s about their personal grooming habits and dating tips.

Five singer-dancers identified merely as Orange, Yellow, Blue, Green and Red, play young women traversing the ever-changing decade of the 1960s through the hit tunes of the British pop music scene. The cast includes triple-threat actresses, Laurie Sullivan (Orange Girl), Kaelen Segers (Yellow Girl), Jessica Guiffre (Blue Girl), Natalie Bollinger (Green Girl) and Alexandria Grace (Red Girl).

The production offers music direction by Robert Cohen, choreography by Barbara Dare Hartwig, scenic design by Buddy Fales, lighting design by Philip Lupo and KJ Sales and incidental staging and costuming by IceHouse managing artistic director, Darlin Barry.

Performances: Performances are March 22 - April 14, with shows on Thursdays at 7:30, Fridays at 8:00, Saturdays at 2:00, Sundays at 2:00 and one Wednesday (April 10 only) at 7:30.
