About This Event
This is a moment 37 years in the making — and we want you there to celebrate it.
On Wednesday, July 22nd, MCREST invites the community to join us for the official ribbon cutting of our new permanent Men's Shelter at 215 South Main Street in Mount Clemens.
After years of serving men experiencing homelessness through rotating church partners, a painful pause in our Men's Program, a zoning battle, a $100,000 Lowe's Hometowns Project grant, a community-wide fundraising campaign, and countless hours of renovation work — the doors are finally ready to open.
This shelter represents something Macomb County desperately needs: a permanent, stable, year-round home for men in crisis. Twenty beds. Twenty lockers. Three showers in a brand new bathroom. A dedicated space where men experiencing homelessness can find safety, structure, and a real path to independence — right alongside our existing Women and Children's Shelter.
The journey to get here was not easy. When our Men's Program had to pause due to a drop in partner churches, we refused to accept that as the end of the story. We identified a building next door to our existing shelter, secured a $100,000 grant from Lowe's Hometowns, navigated a zoning denial, found a creative solution, hired a contractor, raised an additional $100,000 from our community, and watched dozens of Lowe's Red Vest volunteers show up on a single day to build beds, paint walls, plant flowers, and make this space real.
Today, it is real. And we want you here when we open the doors for the first time.
