WVC Performing Arts Profiles!

Let's look at someone else who makes music and theatre happen at Wabash Valley College. Our second profile is Luke Bunting, WVC Sound and Lighting Tech Director

Luke Bunting has been doing light and sound engineering for 11 years. He started learning sound at his church and later began doing production for MCHS musicals when he entered into high school. While still at MCHS Luke started working in Tech at WVC. Luke went onto to complete a Bachelors Degree in Career and Technical Education at Vincennes University. He is now both technical director for WVC and MCHS theaters along with his church.

He enjoys teaching the students at WVC via the WVC Theater Tech Club how to install, program, and operate equipment for community shows and traveling road shows during the WVC-WVAC Performing Arts Series. Luke also works with summer camps at WVC including the music and theatre camps. His favorite part of directing tech is making shows both look and sound awesome, but he also loves seeing his students learn to do the same! Outside of the theater Luke enjoys teaching Computer Applications at Ambassador Christian Academy in Mt Carmel, working at his church, directing church camp, operating the scoreboard at local sporting events, and running his own live sound business, which is available for festivals, parties, and private wedding events.

WVC Performing Arts Profiles!

Lets see who's making it happen at Wabash Valley College in Music and Theatre with our first profile.

Introducing Mikayla Beck:

Mikayla, a native of Mount Carmel, Illinois, has cultivated a deep passion for music, theatre, and the performing arts from an early age. Her involvement with the Wabash Valley Arts Council and Wabash Valley College Performing Arts has been a meaningful part of her artistic journey, providing countless opportunities to grow as a performer, educator, and director. Throughout her academic and professional career, Mikayla has showcased her versatility and talent in a wide range of operas and musicals, including Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi (as Zita), Alec Wilder’s Sunday Excursion (as Veronica), and Mindi Dickstein’s Little Women (as Marmee). Her love of storytelling through music and theatre continues to inspire her work both onstage and behind the scenes.

A significant source of joy for Mikayla is her love for travel and exploration. During her adventures, she made her European debut in Arezzo, Italy, at the Fortezza Medicea, where she performed “Journey to the Past” from the musical Anastasia, composed by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. While in Italy, she also took on the role of Madre Superior a in Umberto Giordano’s Mese Mariano.

With a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance from Eastern Illinois University, currently, Mikayla serves as a Music teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Mount Carmel, IL, as well as the Music Director at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, both Choral Director and Music Theory Instructor at Wabash Valley College, and she is also an advisor and mentor for WVC Performing Arts scholarship students. Since returning to her hometown, she has found great fulfillment in supporting directors at the WVC Brubeck Fine Arts Center, contributing to productions such as Boo, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and The Wizard of Oz, where she performed as Glinda the Good Witch.

Mikayla made her directing debut at the WVC Brubeck Theatre with the production of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Jr., marking a significant milestone in her artistic career. She continued her work as a director with last year’s production of Charles Dickens’ "A Christmas Carol" and is currently co-directing "Alice in Wonderland: The Musical" at Wabash Valley College.
