Andy Griffith Playhouse The Andy Griffith Playhouse stands on what once was Rockford Street School where actor Andy Griffith attended in Mount Airy, North Carolina.

The auditorium was renovated in the early 1970's to become what is now the Andy Griffith Playhouse. The Andy Griffith Playhouse is used daily, year-round, for community theatre, dance, touring student productions, programs and concerts by local students/schools, and other community and arts events. The arts are alive in Mount Airy and the Andy Griffith Playhouse continues its tradition as the perf

orming arts hub. Great performances by nationally known groups and individuals include Doc Watson and David Holt, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Doug Dillard Band, and many others.

Welcome to the Renaissance and the outrageous, crowd-pleasing musical farce, Something Rotten! Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as "The Bard." When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz.
