Action shot of Dr. Houde detailing some of the side effects of overpressurized playing during his presentation, “Want a Better Sound? Don’t ’Use More Air!’” It was a full house at the West Virginia Music Educators Association Conference this morning, learning some tips on helping students learn healthy playing mechanics. Thanks to all in attendance!

It’s been a super busy few weeks in the Horn Studio at WVU! Today, we wrapped up our All-Brass studio classes on Mahler’s first symphony, and we were so glad to have Dr. Cheldon Williams on the podium to lead our brass players through the Finale! Last night, WVU faculty and students provided music to celebrate the return of the Woodburn Hall lighting ceremony, which was tons of fun! There have been band and orchestra concerts, with the horns putting in some serious work on loads of rep, including Dvorak 8. Shred those trills! We also had our studio recital with some excellent solo performances, the world premiere of Aiden Swan’s (BM Comp ‘28) “The Last Dragon,” and some fun rep performed by the Hollerin’ Horns of WVU. It’s been a jam-packed semester and we’re looking forward to juries in a few weeks! Embrace the grind!
