Some of you following my newsletter know that I am building my own dance studio on the side, so I’m going to be teaching fewer private vocal lessons and my availability will become much more limited.

I'll be in New York this Fall! I'm excited to go see my voice students and we will be filming their vocal reels for Broadway auditions.

The videographer and accompanist are confirmed.

These voice students are currently training 3 MT songs to film to update their performance portfolio.

The portfolio is one of the most important assets to musical theatre professionals, it is a PORTFOLIO showing off what you can do, offering to casting what you are capable of and if you are right for a show or not.

This student came to me as an accomplished opera singer—but belting for musical theatre was a completely different skill set.

Understanding how the voice works, scientifically and acoustically, led me to find my spark again with musical theatre.

When you see other people sing well, and you can't figure out how to do it, it can feel frustrating. It can make you want to quit and go for a different career.

That was me.

I actually stopped auditioning.

I got married.

I started a family.

I even moved somewhere secluded away from people just to be left alone.

But ever since I discovered the actual science and acoustic understanding of singing, everything changed.

My brain started thinking "what if I am actually good enough?"

What if you started thinking that too?

From there, you start auditioning for things you never you would before.

If you didn't think your voice could get any better, watch what happens when you start to understand the details of what the vocal anatomy can do.

Warming up helps a lot!

But the type of warm ups I through for each student needs to cater to that individual student.

Not everyone does the same warm ups

And HOW you execute a warm up makes a difference, especially when preparing for belting in a song.
