Adult Workshop Series: Painting Workshop

September 11 | 6PM-8PM | $61

Join TOSS as we take our painting workshop on the road to Fonta Flora Brewery in Morganton for an evening of painting and sipping!

Gláucia Mir will lead us through creating a beautiful landscape using acrylic paints. We’ll learn a little bit about color, practice mixing colors, and leave with a finished painted canvas!

Whether you’re an experienced painter or new to painting, come ready to draw a little and paint a lot! Make sure to wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on, and bring a photo reference or two of a landscape you would like to paint!

A drink voucher will be included for all participants. Must be 21+ to purchase alcohol. Non-alcoholic drink options available.

Visiting Artist Andy Chrem just wrapped up her 2026 summer residency with TOSS! Originally from Peru and now based in Hickory, NC, Andy has more than 20 years of experience creating and teaching art, with a focus on using recycled and recyclable materials. ♻

Inspired by a dream of transforming long, winding coils into sculptural works of art, Andy collaborated with Material Return to create three sculptural vessels reflecting the past, present and her hopes for the future of the textile industry.

Her beautiful pieces are now bringing color and creativity to the TIC co-working space! Thank you, Andy, for spending your summer with us - and thank you Kat Evans (.imagery on instagram) for capturing photos of the finished pieces!

On August 8th, we celebrated 192 students from TOSS Summer Camp! Amazing!!!!!

If you joined us, then you probably blew some bubbles with intern Erica, tried your hand at the drums with Bobbie Snakes, ate some delicious food from The FireTruck Catering LLC, wedged some clay with The Enola Group - Burleson House, helped Andrea Chrem with the final touches to her artwork, made a button (or 8), learned something new with The Industrial Commons trivia, and/or empowered a young artist by purchasing their artwork!

Thanks a million to Shannon Hanson for capturing the brightness that you all, and the sunshine brought that day! No matter how you showed up, it helped support arts education in Burke County, while using creativity as a means for connection!

There's a little more color (and a lot less echo) in the new TIC coworking space!

Our new sound panels are officially up...and they’re the result of a collaboration between TIC and TOSS that brought together art, design, recycled materials, and a whole lot of collective decision-making.

The process started with three concept ideas, then TOSS interns developed three design directions. TIC staff voted on the final concept, we sourced the frames, and Material Return provided recycled textile materials to bring the panels to life.

We also brought the project into our weekly Zirimiri gatherings, using the process as an opportunity to learn more about artistic practice and what it looks like to build something through community participation.

The finished panels are functional, but the process behind them is what we're most excited about. It’s a small example of what it looks like to live out our mission and values through cooperativism. We shared ideas, made decisions together, learned from one another, and created something in the end thats beautiful because we built it together!

Sign up and sit down with TOSS in our August furniture building workshop! You will explore some of the basics of woodworking while creating your very own three legged stool.

Taught by Thomas Purello, participants will learn to use some common woodworking tools such as power drills, handsaws, and whittling knives. Together we’ll have fun and find creative ways to address the intricacies of woodworking. In the end, students will walk away with their own stool and new skills for the future.

All materials and tools will be provided, and no prior preparation is required. This workshop is 18+ due to the potential danger that comes with using some of the tools in the class. Come ready to learn, build, and make some sawdust!

THIS SATURDAY! We still have spots open for our Linocut Workshop!

July 18th | 2pm-5pm | $55

Together with TOSS Instructor and professional printmaker, Gláucia Mir, you will learn all about the tools and materials, as well as best practices to carve a successful block print.

You bring the ideas, and we bring the supplies. (We can also help with the ideas!)

Together we will make 1-2 small linoleum carvings and prints. You will leave the workshop with your “stamp or block”, a few prints, and the knowledge and skills to continue and grow your practice!
