Great gifts for your friend who loves cats more than pizza! West Union Art Studios
I unloaded a batch of SECONDS, including Appalachian Trail mugs and a really cool bowl with sgraffito designs. They won't be displayed in the gallery but you can find them on Etsy deeply discounted! (message me if you live in NC and can pick up in Morganton, to avoid paying shipping costs)
These Seconds are fully functional, I just applied the glaze too thickly in some spots and it caused the glaze to pull away from the clay at that spot. Take a look! The mugs are near perfect, I just had a "lapse in judgment" around the handle areas 😜🫣🥴. The bowl is great, but again, too much glaze at the rim caused it to crawl too much.
Let my error be your advantage!!

Come by the pottery studio to see all the wonderful things Morganton's local artists do!!! Read below about this very special one!
Sarah Britt of the Signature Day Program brought in this beautiful hand stitched quilt today. She has been teaching herself different quilting patterns from a book she found. This one is called “The Desert Nights Lap Quilt.” Would be great as a tapestry or on your couch to keep you warm.
If you saw how Sarah makes these you would be truly amazed. She doesn’t measure or use a ruler. She folds the fabric to get her design, hand stitches all of it and works on a small table where she can’t see the full design until the end. Incredible!
What are your Saturday plans? Come by West Union Art Studios and see us!!
C’mon by the studio today and see what’s in the works. New directions are beginning at the studio that we can’t wait to share. Until that time keep enjoying this wonderful work by Glenn Tanzer and take a guess as to what we’re working towards!
A - Community classes
B - More artist studios
C - Expanded gallery display
D - Traveling Raku kiln
All I'm saying is...Butterbeans better practice at WUAS every now and then... lol. Very excited for your path Robert Gucwa. You're going to do great!
Mr. Robert Gucwa, our quarantine buddy, master luthier, giver of music lessons and owner of Morganton Music Patch has officially moved into his own retail store in Tannery Square on the other side of Mountain Burrito. Robert has been selling instruments and accessories in our store since October. There has been quite a demand for the services that he provides, so he pulled the trigger to find the right fit and to give himself room to grow. All of us a West Union Art Studios wish him well, good fortune and good luck!
If you need some hiking swag on your car or favorite water bottle or want to help get the word out about a hiking group I created a few years ago, I'VE GOT STICKERS!!!😃💞🤟
Available on my Etsy site: https://www.etsy.com/shop/earthdirtpottery
More mugs for the Appalachian Trail enthusiast! Visit West Union Art Studios in downtown Morganton, or check out my Etsy page / web page to order by mail!! If you're looking for discounts, I have "seconds" at a great price on Etsy! I've switched to little loafers clay, which is white, but I still have a couple left in earthen red clay at the studio. Glaze colors are turquoise and buttery yellow.
$3 is donated to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy for each mug sold.

Even though the mouse head looks more like a cat head, I'm pretty happy with this attempt! I need to work on my drawing skills, but this was super fun! Original pic & my version of it 🙃
love these!
This dressing pitcher has been one of Mary’s best selling shapes. She’s been bringing them to the shop for about 2 years now. I’m sure they have been purchased and are now living all over the US! It’s a sweet little design that we’ve enjoyed seeing again and again.
If you like "seconds," I've got plenty! These two neat pieces are on Etsy, and I'm about to add a handful of AT Mugs that totally did not come out as planned, color-wise -- coffee still tastes excellent in them, however! https://www.etsy.com/shop/earthdirtpottery
Calling all Hiker Trash!! Grab your A.T. mugs quick at West Union Art Studios in downtown Morganton, NC!!
I made some left and right-handed grips this time, plus the regular. I've got the ones shown below at the studio and also different ones on my Etsy. If you want to order them in advance visit earthdirtpottery.com. Stay Stinky!
I've got 6 new Appalachian Trail mugs at the studio, ready to be taken home and enjoyed with your favorite coffee, tea, or soup even! If you're in Morganton, come by West Union Art Studios, downtown - OR - you can pick one up from my Etsy shop and have it mailed to you.
These are from my Etsy page and are separate from the ones in the studio (so I don't sell the same one twice by accident)
I'm experimenting with making some of the handles specific to right or left-handed grips.
