Chix in the Sticks is underway!

This is our smallest Chix event for the year, but still has ladies from five different states:

Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia

These ladies are planning on getting together at another trail facility next month. That happens a lot. People make friends and trail ride and travel or meet up with them for years to come after meeting them here.

I also called up a friend who is riding a new horse so she could enjoy this great weather. It’s about time to go shopping and have dinner at the beloved Mrs. Mary Ella’s house.

Life is GOOD, and we hope to make it a little better with CHIX IN THE STICKS.

Thank you for the online sales! Shipping t-shirts, tallow, a phone pouch, and a wooden project building kit this morning.

We are open and have CT2V, Chix in the Sticks, and clinics coming up in addition to trail riding and camping.

We have been busy with family this summer, doing a second cutting of hay, tending to cows and horses, and teaching homesteading classes.

Looking forward to trail riders, Chix in the Sticks, CT2V competitors, Carl Bledsoe clinic participants, and Lee Hart clinic participants.

Tagging, preg checking, dewormed, and vaccinated our cattle herd.

David with Building with David has a laser and was able to laser his ear tags.

Brandy with Brandy Von Holten, Author/Speaker/Instructor hosted a signature homesteading experience called SMART CHIX where 10 people from across the US enjoy three days learning twelve topics. The cattle working happened to work out perfectly to throw in a little cattle explanation.

In 1906, Von Holten Ranch was purchased by David's great-grandfather, Heinrich Von Holten.

In 2013, David & Brandy Von Holten purchased the ranch. It had not been lived on since 1979 and was in ruins.

In 2026, Von Holten Ranch Event Facility with Trail won Missouri's Best Ranch for the 3rd year. This is VHR's 12th year as Von Holten Ranch.

We had two cabins become available for the last weekend in August! We do have a Chix in the Sticks that weekend, but that event is TINY. We made the fumble of booking a Chix in August when Labor Day Weekend is in September in 2026. In 2025, Labor Day Weekend was in August.

There are so many little marketing and calendar rules for a trail and event facility. Our learning equals your gain. If you have ever wanted to attend a Chix in the Sticks or come camping at Von Holten Ranch but wanted a small crowd, August 28-30 is your time to shine.

I would like to wish a big Happy Birthday to the woman behind Von Holten Ranch. Without her ideas ( some may be a little crazy) we wouldn’t have accomplished such success, gained so many great customers and made so many great memories.
