Hello Friends,
It's been a very long while since I last made a post. So what have we been up to?
Jessica vine is wrapping her EP right now and is in the mix phase. It's been a very rewarding past year working on a very special group of songs. She'l be announcing her release date very soon so be sure to check her out at https://www.facebook.com/Jessica-Vines-191718087931552/
32 Below began work a few weeks ago on two new songs to be released later this Spring. They have a very different vibe than the band has had in the past couple years and I'm personally very excited for this new direction. The new tunes really allow their musicianship to shine through and are catchy as can be!
The Gina Powers Band has been working since early December on a full length album. Excellent songwriting, vocals, and musicianship have been displayed thus far with a lot of fun work to come!
I'd also like to take a moment to share what I've personally been learning the past few months. After all, it's the engineer/producers job to keep growing as well as the artists!
As such, I'd like share a new philosophy I'm suggesting to everyone; "Let the song decide." What I mean by that is, a song is best served when the performance of everyone's parts serves what the song has to say, or what the song wants to be. Too many times I've witnessed different musicians hell bent on showing off just because they can, or because they think they only have value if they do, and inevitably the recording suffers. Parts no longer work together, melodies become convoluted and lost in the mix; in general what was a great song becomes one that is eminently forgettable.
Having a producer can go a long way towards making sure that a song is constructed to its maximum effect, but a band that can restrain their own worst urges can be just as successful without a producer. Anyways, just something for you all to think about. We all go into the recording process with a multitude of ideas, excited to show what we can do. The best albums are the ones where the ideas and parts that don't fit are left on the cutting room floor, and the best ideas shine. Remember, the best songs tell a story. Find a way to make sure the story is what matters most.
Keep Creating!
